Hi, My family and I were driving through Wisconsin on our way home to Mpls and we stopped at a gas station in Winchester, WI. It was a Kwik Trip. As I was walking in, I saw two cat's sitting in a tree. As I got closer, I noticed at least 6 cats all sitting in two small trees. I asked the clerks about it and they said people drop cats/dogs there all the time. They said the cats have lived back there for a while. They also told me they found a box with puppies inside, and all had passed away except for one. This is heartbreaking. I bought a bag of cat food and walked in knee deep snow to get to the cats. I got close to one of them, but they were scared.

My question is what can I do? I live 5 hours away and I have emailed several shelters in the area. One replied and said they couldn't do anything. Do any of you have any ideas? It is so cold here right now and I can't stop thinking about these cats. Thanks for any advice/ideas.

Sometimes shelters don't have the resources- I am in Illinois, and have dealt with rescues, with no building, pre se-PAWS, or second chance. There are rescue organizations that trap, I would try to find some in Wisconsin, I know in Illinois there are several. Where in Wisconsin is Winchester?

I have a good friend that lives in Sparta, WI - I don't know where that is in relation to Winchester, but I sent him an email to see if he knows of any rescues or if any of his neighbors do. I hope for some positive response seeing as how he is an ex-Army MP (tough guy image supposedly) and has 2 cats of his own - both strays.....he sends me more pictures of them then of his kids LOL
Thank god for these cats you found them -there is hope.
Living in Michigan - that is my biggest weakness.....going outside and seeing little paw prints in the snow - every darn morning........I hate knowing there are "lost souls" out there in this frigid weather.
Good luck and I will post back when I hear from him (he has to go online at the library for the time being so it may be a few days)

Winchester is about 15/20 miles northwest of Oshkosh. I'ts on 45 right before 10. It's frustrating because I live so far away. I feel so helpless. I've been trying to contact people in Wisconsin to no avail. Thank you Sharon Mistic for your advice. I really appreciate it.

Piston58, I do hope your friend contacts you. Now I have a glimmer of hope. You know just as well as I do about winters living in Michigan. The snow was knee deep, I couldn't believe it! I also can't believe how people can just "dump" their animals behind this gas station. So depressing! Please let me know when you hear from your friend. And thank you both for your quick and encouraging responses!

I can't give any donations, but if there was a petition I'd sign it.
