Thanks to everyone who contacted us about the video clip recently seen all over the Web, where a member of the United States Military can be seen apparently committing a heinous act of animal cruelty, flinging a puppy off a cliff.
We understand your outrage. Please click here to view our response. We invite and encourage you to share this link with your friends who are concerned about the upsetting incident.
All of these videos are too sad to watch. I can't believe our military perons are doing things like this. This honeslty sickens me and brings me to tears. Animals have feelings too and they CAN feel PAIN! I honeslty think the people responsible should HAVE to UNDERGO the same cruelty and treatment that they put upon animals. Yes they have families and they wouldn't like me saying things like that but what would stop them from throwing children off a cliff or torturing a child like they did the animals in those videos. I among others DONT think they were being cool, brave,or anything else other than STUPID and INSISITIVE. Its horrible and I dont think they are worthy to serve in the military. They should be in a freaking PADDED ROOM !
While venting our concern on this site is a good first step, it will only be relieving OUR distress. To respond to the distress that Puppy (I call him/her Puppy, so s/he has the diginity of a name) felt as s/he was dying, I urge you to let the authorities know how you feel, and contact your representative in your parliament/congress. Ask that acts of animal cruelty be covered by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, so that these animals are protected by military law.
There has been reports that this man may face demotion or loss of pay. I feel there is no money that can make up for this, and to reduce Puppy's life to a simple loss of pay is insulting. I hope there is much harsher consequences than that.
I acknowledge that many soldiers are doing wonderful things like adopting rescued dogs in Iraq. The actions of this man have let down these wonderful animal-helpers, and we support the good works of these rescuers by expressing our opposition to this cretin's actions.
From my emails I have these replies:
US Air Force: They replied within 24 hours, which I thought was good.

Ma'am,
Thank you for your e-mail. The U.S. military does not tolerate cruelty
to animals and the video you mention in your e-mail is being
investigated. As this is the Air Force Public Affairs office, we can
only speak on those areas directly related to the Air Force. I
recommend you contact Marine Public Affairs. Their Web site is www.usmc.mil.

And from the US Marines, this an out-of-office reply but I am heartened by the wording of this that action will be taken.

I will be out of the office for the remainder of the week but will continue to monitor email on my Blackberry. For those emailing me concerning the video of a Marine mistreating a puppy, I can tell you that this video is both shocking and deplorable - these actions are contrary to the high standards we expect from our Marines. The Marine Corps has initiated an investigation; we do not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action.
The US Army website does not seem to have a inquiry form and it is difficult to find a link to send a communication. The US Navy site I am still checking. I want to send my email to all four branches of the services just in case it is viewed as only a USMC problem. I would like to know that all areas of the miiltary are on top of this issue. I am sure the scenario is different for air and sea forces simply because they are not as often patrolling on foot in armed in conflict zones but, as we know only too well, the people who will torture animals exist everywhere.
I sent very nice emails to 2 departments and have not received a reply. They do not care and will not do anything to the marine that is why the news have stopped doing a piece on it because it is the department of defense and big brother is shutting communications down. After all this makes them look even worse in the eyes of others then they already did.
i can't belive that this marine is stupid enough to video tape this. I hope they do something about this and why would he do this, i haven't seen the video and don't want to. Its bad enough to see the puppy. what is going through his head to something so horrible. i just want to cry and i hope someone does something to him for doing this.
This video is sickening and the USMC will deal with them appropriately. Unfortunately, he and his family have received death threats. Our enemies want them beheaded, as if they care about animals, just another reason to commit terror attacks against our troops. We are at war and it is not safe to broadcast information about our men and women serving in the military. Our enemies read the net also. Please remove this man's name and address from your site. Thanks you.
Que sera sera. You reap what you sew, and not just Americans love animals. Jerks like this make America look bad since he is representing us on the front line, making ALL of us even more of a target. Screw him, I hope they get 'im!!!!
Me said that this is opening military up for more terrorist attacks. you said screw it, you hope it happens. I have fostered several animals, am very active in dog rescue, and have worked with an animal shelter overseas when they didnt have the funding or ability to relocate when evicted. I am also in the service. so by your logic, this man's acts deserve making people like me a target for terrorism. the marine who did this is a horrible person, and does not represent what the US military stands for. but you saying shit like that doesnt make you any better of a person than he is.
