This ad is the most ridiculous and asinine ad ever. This joker says that he is a meatarian and it is"his personal choice" and he is committed to it.This is a slap in the face for vegetarains such as myself whose vegetarianism is a immutable lifestlye and center of my life. for me it is a personal committment and I have been practicing it for over 20 years. (I am 80 years old). This joker shoud be made to watch the video and or visit a slaughterhouse,(Howard Lyman said that if you ever have a chance to visit a slaughterhouse, don't.
You keep quoting Deuteronomy, but in Genesis, God told Adam and Eve that the plants were to be eaten, no mention was made of eating animals. God only said that man/woman had dominion over the animals. I guess I take that as God telling us to take care of the animals. I am a Christian vegetarian. I made that decision for myself, I do not even force it onto my family. I do it because I cannot stand animals to suffer just so I can eat them. I also feel if I cannot stand to kill it myself, I should not be eating it. There are plenty of other types of grain and plant based proteins. I thought the commercial was pretty stupid. Animals that eat meat are carnivors, not meatatarians.
I was quoting that place in the bible because that was the first verse I saw. If you remember, there are also laws in the OT about clean and unclean animals. If God did not intend for us to eat animals, He would not have made laws as such. HOWEVER, my point was not about God, my point was not about eating or not eating meat...my point was you should not and cannot force your beliefs onto other people as outline in the American Constitution. We all have a right to freedom, free thinking and free doing. THAT was my point and please do not read anything into that point as I have expressed that now several times in this thread. Eating meat or voting for McCain (as expressed in another group) does not make me or anyone else a bad person. It makes us free thinkers and doers.
i'm a Christian vegetarian, like many others on this site.
i think veganism Christianity go well together! here is why:
Jesus taught about love for others, compassion, and mercy. Even if the Bible tells us that we CAN eat meat, it doesn't say that we HAVE to. I try my best to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and I think that being a vegetarian is a great way to exhibit the kindness and compassion that He taught of.
Besides.....the Bible says "Thou shalt not kill".......not "Thou shalt not kill other humans." God only gave humans the permission to eat meat after the flood because there was no vegetation. Even then He said that it would have to be free of blood and that eating animals would cause them to fear us and attack us. Think about it....before the flood everyone MUST have been vegetarian....if people and animals were all eating each other, how would they have been able to stay on an ark together without mass slaughter? Doesn't make sense, does it? If you tell them to read Genesis 9, they can see all of this play out.
Also, think about the Lord's Prayer...part of it is:
"Thy kingdome come, Thy will be done
on Earth as it is in Heaven."
There is no killing in Heaven, as the lion will lay with the lamb. If we are supposed to be doing God's will as it is in Heaven, we should do no killing of living beings either. Just a thought. =)
when all else fails, i just show people this:
"Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food." And it was so." Genesis 1:29
God did give people permission to eat meat in Genesis 9, but He only did so because the great flood had occurred and there was no vegetation for people to eat. He even says that by doing so animals will learn to fear each other and humans. He offered to let us eat meat because we had to eat something to survive, not because people were really craving a bbq sandwich.
Ialso STRONGLY recommend everyone visit ww.jesusveg.org at least once....you don't have to agree with it, but if nothing else it will really get you thinking!
BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL =D
(BTW, I'm not trying to offend anyone, just sharing my own personal views. I have no problem with what others eat or I would have a difficult time being married to my meat-loving husband.)
Since you keep quoting Genesis. Which surprises me because most christians I know always say that they are not under the law they are under grace so the ot doesn't apply. Jesus himself ate meat. he ate fish and he also ate lamb at the passover. When the angels of God visited Abraham he served them meat. The apostles ate meat and every one of these people was a strict adherance Jew. or as us Jews say Torah Observant
Skeeterbug, I didn't say that Jesus was a vegetarian. I simply stated the evidence I have seen in the Bible that promotes the idea that the Garden of Eden (God's perfect creation) was a vegetarian (vegan in fact) world and that the permission to eat meat was done out of necessity for survival. You can take that as you like, but I ask that you please refrain from putting words in my mouth.
I agree with you. I am Jewish. and Jewish law requires that any animal raised and slaughtered be done with the least amount of suffering. Kosher butchers are strictly supervised by Rabbi's. I eat meat and I do not plan to stop. I for one have health issues and I am suppose to eat a lot of protein in my diet and I am not suppose to eat nuts because of things they contain. I also have problems eating most vegetables unless they are pureed. and I have tried those veggie meats they are horrible
Wow...where do these people come from....seriously. A mental hospital just got computers I see. We have one in another thread saying feed humans to dogs and this one is speaking Shakespeare and making no sense. For freedom, but yet shoving your crap in people's faces are not the same. Wake up and realize that this is a free country and I eat meat. Call me an animal abuser, I could care less.
Bambi, the correct usage is "iIcouldn't care less" Your phraseology does not make sense.I could care less means just that and that you care,Better brush upn your grammar.but please just go away.
And you show your ignorance by picking on something petty like grammar. God indeed created animals, after he created man...the animals were indeed for Adam. Man was made in God's image, animals were not. You choose something as the likes of grammar to insult because you know I am right. It does not make animal cruelty right, but I have spent many months praying over this as I too was at odds to whether to become vegetarian or not, and the answer I was given was not. By the way, you don't make people "come over to your side" and convince them you are right by insulting them.
At least you considered it.Good girl.
Grammar enables one to say what one means, not what one doesn't mean.either you could care less or you couldn;t care less/Clarity is important. As for insulting you are quite good at that.perhaps when you have lived to my age you might become enlightened. As for the Bible, that seems to be your source of information and it is not possible to engage in meaningful debate when one takes the bible literally. You have your religion. Mine is Ahimsa, do no harm, and this includes all living sentient feeling creatures,The end please.I do not wish to continue this /I am an atheist. I know that will really offend you.Weren't animals here first?"According to evolution but I am sure that you believe in the myth.of creationismNO MORE REPLIES
