Hi! Ready to Rock This Forum?
Thank you for visiting the ASPCA discussion forum. We are committed to allowing freedom of expression for our members, and that includes maintaining a safe space for people with opposing views to express themselves. We get posts from all over the country and even the globe, so needless to say, people come with different viewpoints on animal welfare. We see this diversity and variety as a real strength-- dialogue and debate are an integral part of the educational process, as well as an important tool in exploring different sides of complex issues.

ASPCA Code of Conduct
Okay, I know we said we want you to have the freedom to express yourselves. And we do. But a few rules never hurt, right?
• Be nice! No flaming. Many posters come here for information, not to be called names.
• Please respect the different backgrounds and education of posters—especially when it comes to diverse perspectives on animal treatment. The best thing you can do for animals is politely educate on how to protect them.
• No one needs to hear you correct them on proper grammar and spelling. Let’s talk animals, not the difference between affect and effect.
• Wanna talk about religion and race? Well, we don’t. We wanna talk about animals.
• Don’t gang up with other posters against one person. It’s not nice! Better to stick to animal talk.
• Did I mention you should…talk about animals? Cool! Now get to it and have fun!

Medical Questions:
Please, please, please do not submit questions about emergency medical problems here. If you think that your pet is sick, contact your veterinarian. Self-diagnosis or delay seeking proper veterinary care may worsen your pet's condition.

Questions for the ASPCA:
While the ASPCA staff does monitor the ASPCA Community, we can't always answer individual questions via the discussion boards. If you have a question for the ASPCA, please visit www.aspca.org or send me a message via my profile.

Reporting Discussion Board Abuse:
To report discussion board abuse, please visit: http://aspcacommunity.ning.com/main/index/report.

All right, now that you've gotten the boring rules part out of the way, start postin' some animal love! Can't wait to talk to you!

Best,
Elyse

a feral cat i have been taking care of has just had kittens in an outdoor house i provided for them. should i at this point do anything as far as cleaning and changing bedding.

Hi....I foster cats for a shelter and if you are providing a place for these kittens one of the best things you can do is to get this mama to a vet and have her spayed. This would have to be after she quits nursing. If you can get the babies away from her in time they could be good pets, but if they stay w/mama very long they will turn feral too. Maybe there is a shelter that would help with expenses. Good luck!

Liz, what happened to those babies? I am new to the ASPCA web community and came across your question. The kittens might be around 2 months old now, were you able to catch them or their mother? Please tell their story. Thanks and hope everything is fine.

I'm new to the site and just realized I am responding to a dated message but wanted to get this info out anyway. Hope everything worked out.

I don't know where you live but we have a huge rabies problem where I live. If you have one there you need to be directed about what to do to protect the cats and yourselves against this disease. I have seen kittens die from the disease ( I believe their mother had it and it was passed in utero) and whole families requiring rabies prophylaxis. You can call your local Dept of Health to find out if you are in an area with rabies. I'm sorry I can't help you with the other aspects of the new kitten issue. I hope everything works out fine. You are really kind to help this poor cat and her babies.

Hello to all the pet people!!!
I so love this place!!!
I have a situation and Im not sure how to handle it.
This passed December,a friend of mine adopted 2 cats from me.Well-on February 12,2008 she was killed in a car accident in Kentucky. Of course being military,it took the military people about 4 days to get the news to her hubby who was deployed. When he did get home tho-not knowing the situation with the cats to bring them back to me if they could/would NOT be able to keep them, he brought them to the pound on the military post.I guess he didnt find the paperwork in regards to the cats. Well,Im stranded in California til Saturday night-flights got cancelled due to major snow storm,My hubby went on post with the papers that we have in regards to the cats so we could get them back.Now-they arent denying us the cats-BUT,they are charging us $60 for each cat for us to take them back.Is this right?Should I try to set up a donation fund so I can get my babies back? We have til 2 weeks from Friday-even tho they gave them shots that they did not need and are neutering them this weekend, they will euthanize them in 2 weeks from Friday-so I dont know what to do.
Thank you
Jen H
