Just wondering what thoughts you guys have on naming your pets. Do you name them after celebrities, fictional characters, people you've met? Do you give them proper names or maybe just a descriptive name ("Smoky", "Precious", etc.)?

I ask because my sister is considering getting a cat, and at one shelter she met a cat named "Pizza Party", which seemed a little weird.

I love those wacky names. Best two I've met:
A Yorkshire terrier named Mr. Little Jeans
A cat named Court Reporter

That's hilarious. I love names like Hey You.

I named one of my cats after a celeb. Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen. I like people names for cats, too. I usually don't love names like Fluffy and Precious.

A friend of mine (when he was a kid) wanted to call his cat "Puddy-tat". His parents talked him out of it. They pointed out he would look like an idiot walking around saying "Here puddy-tat... come here puddy-tat".

But I like Puddy tat :(
Isn't that what Tweety says?

Elyse, I've got a Bruce too! But, I didn't name him. Bruce came as Bruce and given a family history with the name, I was forced to keep it. But Bruce he will always be, though I will call him Deuces on occasion.

Keppe is my other furry one. He's got a rather wide head and a flat face. Keppe = Head in yiddish. Seemed fitting.

Their full names are: King Bruce von Katzenberg and Friar Keppe D'Mieu.

I am officially weird.

My recent favorite name was for a dog at the shelter where I volunteer. She was a dark brown Shar-pei mix named Raisin, since she was so wrinkly and brown. Perfect!

Both my dogs came with their names, since I adopted them as adult dogs. As I got to know them better, I gave them nicknames. One is a little bit dim, but very sweet and lovable, so I call him Bubba. The other makes these hilarious grunting noises when he's getting scratched and rubbed, or whenever he's really comfortable laying on his bed. He's also a bit of a treat-fiend, so his nickname is Piggy.

My sisters dog is like your bubba lol only his name is boscoe. Shes weird though of course my cousin likes to call him stupid dog bad thing is he comes clopping over he doesn't mean it in a mean way though :). I defend him though even if he is dim witted :) hes still the most loving dog. I named my dog Holly because I got her at Christmas I thought it fit her perfectly since it sounds so cheerful and happy like her.

I usually name them based on their color and/or personality. I have had two all white cats...one was named Moonshine and the other was named Milky Way. Milky Way was a cool looking cat, he had one blue eye and one green eye.
