Just wondering what thoughts you guys have on naming your pets. Do you name them after celebrities, fictional characters, people you've met? Do you give them proper names or maybe just a descriptive name ("Smoky", "Precious", etc.)?

I ask because my sister is considering getting a cat, and at one shelter she met a cat named "Pizza Party", which seemed a little weird.

My dogs' name is Buster and I named him that because he busted into my heart after a horrible time with my last dog who died of old age.
My two cats' names are Boots and Chloee. Obviously Boots is because all her paws are white like boots and the rest of her is black.
Chloee got her name (how embarrassing) from Bratz. There is a bratz doll named Cloe and I thought that was cute but I wanted the spelling to be different.

Usually I just use descriptive names, lol. Some of the animals I've had in the past were named, 'Puppy', 'Kitty'. Lol. When I moved in with my husband he had a cat named, 'Senator' (he was fat and lazy).
Also, my current pets are named, 'Tiger' (Orange tabby), 'Bela' means beauty in Portuguese, Crete (found under concrete railroad ties).

Just name the new buddy whatever comes to mind! Be creative....or don't! =P

My brother gave his cat a name that cant even be spelled. I usually just give the animal a name that reflects what I feel when I first meet it.

I think the stranger the better! I have Oreo (with is not that uncommon) and when I decided to get my 2nd cat, I wanted to keep it in the "junk food" family, so he got called Twizzler. People think thier names are cute and they are now labes my "Sugar Babies". But even in given them naes, I call them everything but. Oreo is now Ms. Evil Thang and Twizzler is normally called Doodlebug. Strange..this I know!

My lab was already named "Calvin" by his first family, and at 5 years old, when we adopted him into our home, we didn't have much of a choice. Since Rupert is a German wire-haired Dachshund, we dug up some Germanic names on the internet. I lobbied hard for "Mannfred." He just "looked" like a "Mannfred" to me. But, through a very non-scientific survey of folks on the street who met our puppy, Rupert won out. Dammit! I wanted to call him "Manny" - his short name for Mannfred. I'm over it now, though - thank goodness!
Rupert it is!!!!!

I have always been a Dukes of Hazard fan. I would watch the show for hours growing up. Thats where I got the name for all of my pets. If I get another pet... I will have to keep the tradition going.
