Naming your pet?

Just wondering what thoughts you guys have on naming your pets. Do you name them after celebrities, fictional characters, people you've met? Do you give them proper names or maybe just a descriptive name ("Smoky", "Precious", etc.)?

I ask because my sister is considering getting a cat, and at one shelter she met a cat named "Pizza Party", which seemed a little weird.

Haha, "Pizza Party" is a bit strange! The way I name my pets is usually after people. My fish is George, my cockatiel is Chuggers (My mother named him. Don't ask.), and the pup I'm hoping to adopt is Max. I would name them based on their personalities. George was very curious when I named him...

she is a 2.5 lb toy poodle and she is 7 months old!

I always like to give names that fit their personalities. The two dogs I have were rescued..therefore I did not get to name them. My daughter has unique names for her adopted animals...Kol..is a black lab. rot. hound mix..very black..shiny and beautiful. Roo Roo is a wennier mix..and looks like a Joey...a kangroo baby....Beans is a Black and Tan wennier...the beans thing..well he looks like coffee beans..I call him Beany Baby..he is precious...her cats...OJ because he looks like orange juice...Charlie...her other cat because he was just a cool cat...My son saved a black and white cat..because he was orphaned..he named him Oliver...Just go with a name that you think is cool and would be proud to tell others..silly names or baby names is a matter of opinion...by the way..we have a baby wennier in the family ..her name is Bitsy...because she is a bit of a runt. Good question... I'm not sure how I came up with my dogs name, I named her on the way home after picking her up, I thought that Mae Juniper Flores-Callaghan was the perfect name for her!

Naming your animal is a fun thing ....when my niece and her husband could not come up with a name for their black duck dog..after visiting and playing with him..my daughter came up with Black Jack Tyme...they loved the name...and it fits..

Think of something that makes you smile or a personality on tv...Wally is a great name for a cat..so is Simon...or Kitty Cat...nick name of KC...or Conway as in Conway Kitty...or Willie..or Starlite...so many good ones you can make unique..let me know when you pick a name..it is a fun thing to do..pick one that pleases you and know your kitty will be with you a lot of years God willing..Peace, Dorothy

i think it depends on her cat's personality. if the cat's personality is more serious than anything else, she should try picking a real name, like Sammy or Lizzie. If the cat is more playful, i'd go with a more "playful name", or a "pet name", like Cuddles or Smokey.

Our animals alway had other animals names. We had a snake named Pig, an iguana named Frog, a cat named Dawg and a rat named Kitty. It was fun. Now I have Pike, Summer and Winter. My friends think we need to have two more Spring and Fall/Autumn. Pike is fall colors and one friend said I should change his name...LOL.. and what? confuse him. Hes confused enough as it is..wierd cat. We have three but he can play with himself and be totally amused...its hilarious.

well i got this cat from someone in chicago and she is five years old and her name was angel and she seems to respond to it but i had a pup named angel that was very very special to me i mean it i sang her to sleep everynight and she died suddenly and it hurt me very much and i dont know what to do calling her angel hurts to much i still miss angel very much and she can never be replaced and that song i sang for angel i made myself and it is and always will be her song she was my angel her name was angel soft my aunt named her dog charmin and then i had a dog that we gave to loving home named cottennelle

It is hard loosing a beloved pet...I had my Calab pass away a few weeks ago..he is sorely missed. I have two others, but he was my main little man. I have no idea when grief ends..I do know I will never forget him nor the bond we had. Naming another the same name would be difficult...tag something onto this pets name...as hard as it sounds..your kitty whose name is Angel is used to that name..you are her person now and I know she is full of love just aimed at you. No loved one can be replaced..but be sure this new animal needs you. Try to enjoy, embrace this love and know your Angel is at peace ...God love's is to strong for the creatures He created not to have a place for our pet children. I hope things go well for you Bug..
