Do not use SERGEANT'S GOLD FLEA AND TICK SQUEEZE ON

Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick Squeeze-On for Dogs. I applied this product to my dog as directed, and within hours she was vomiting, foaming at the mouth, drooling and had no control of her legs. I was NOT happy with this product AT ALL. Thank God she is okay now, after calling my vet and doing what they told me to do. We had to immediately bathe her with dishwashing liquid, and then start getting her to take in water and chicken broth. She is very tired now and resting, but doing okay....IMMEDIATE difference after getting that crap off her. I absolutely WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this product to ANYONE !!!

Has anyone else had a problem with this product ??

I would love to help with anything that will expose this company. My family agonized over what we had done to our pet. She didnt sleep for 2 days and could not walk. She seems to be better, but what long term effects could there be from the tremors? My e-mail is debi.pearson@ambius.com.....

My family has just spent the weekend worrying about our year old puppy, we unknowingly applied the sargeants gold tube, within an hour she became very sick, all of the symptoms listed here....We were out of town and had to take her to a 24 hour emergency hospital, thankfully we had been hand feeding her food and water so she was not dehydrated. The vet gave her an injection of a muscle relaxer and told us to watch her. For 2 nights we took turns staying awake rubbing her and trying to get the tremors to calm down. She seems to be better today (3rd day), I am furious that this product is still available....

Sergeant's Gold and SentryPro XFC "Allergic" Reaction and Deaths happen Daily see the below news report and websites with all the fellow Sergeant Reaction sufferers.

Been through it with two Pugs, it was like watching them die for three days straight. This is not an allergic reaction.

There is something wrong with their Sergeant Products and instead of taking it off the shelves the continue to make Pet Parents like You and I watch our pet children suffer.

DO NOT USE THIS...

I, or the vet I work for, DO NOT USE nor RECOMMEND products like that. There are too many cases of the supposed "allergic" reactions... Most people think that vets say, "Ohh, use the Frontline, here I'll get u a tube for u 2 buy.. so the vet can get your money. THAT'S NOT IT! These products SUCK!! They are cheap.. and not worth it.. the frontline is like $15 bucks... it's worth it for your pet to get something that works and doesn't make him feel bad...

I would use NOTHING before I would use any products like that... and so should u! Hope no one ever uses that on the animals..

Thanks,

Keith Cole

I used this horrible product Sergeant's Gols flea and tick for Dogs on my 2 pugs on 10/26. Both dogs became agitated, hyper, scratched at themselves cried and ran in circles all night. I took them to the vet and found out it was this so called medication that was causing them to be sick. My pugs were hospitalized for the day, needing 2 baths each, they were on IV fluids for the day to try and flush the poison out of their bodies and came home on muscle relaxers to keep them calm. They continue to scratch at themselves and are not back to normal after 3 days. They will need to go back to the vet to see what else can be done for them, so far my vet bill is $614.00. The worse part is watching them suffer and not being able to do anything for them. This product NEEDS to be removed from stores and consumers need to be warned. Sergeant should be ashamed to sell products that harm dogs and can possibly cause death. I am enraged over this !!!!!

So Sorry Christine.....Sorry that you are going through this now...it is horrible.

Know your anguish and the turmoil Sergeant has brought in your home and the impact to your Pug Children.

My name is Lorraine ... the forever Sergeant's Sufferer.... I am committed for Life to STOP Sergeant's President and Company from knowingly causing cruelty and deaths to innocent Pets and creating scaring suffering for their Parents.

Posted the above statement with all the Web sites of other sufferers.

I have two Pugs (one fawn and one black) and had the same experience as you did....My Story started on 8-24-08, My poison was Sergeant's Gold flea and tick squeeze-on from Walmart! Had all the symptoms as mentioned above!

Went to the doctors, got two shots each (Diphenhydramine 50mg/ml & Dexametasone 2mg/ml and continued with Benadryl 2 times a day.

Felt horrible we still didn’t sleep for 3 nights straight! Even after the shots we had the side effects…twitching & itching…Wrapped both Pugs in Ice Packs to stop the itching and dipped dish towels in ice water to wrap around them.

On the third day, had to take Lili back to the doctor because she had rapid breathing and she couldn't lay down. She just sat up and was unable to stop rapid breathing she was physically exhausted. Doctor gave her Temaril-P to calm her down and take care of the inflammation that was causing her to gasp for air.

You are not alone in your experience.
So Sorry you had to suffer from the hands of Sergeant's Products,

Hardest part for me, Sergeant says they read our daily cases of suffering yet they will not take this product off the market. Instead they continue to collect financial profits off of innocent Pet Parent’s suffering.

These parents love their animals as if they were human beings. If this product was for the consumption of humans then the reactions would be considered cruelty and the deaths would be equal to murder.

Hard for me to know this tragic experience will happen to someone tomorrow. Hard for me not to be able to stop it.
Sergeant please Stop it. You Can.

I used this product on my yorkie and about an hour after using it i noticed she was acting really strange. I got online and typed in just the product name and saw a bunch of horror stories about people using this product. Thankfully I used to work for a vet and I knew to wash her with dawn dish soap. But even after doing that twice she was still shaking, scratching, biting, had reddened skin, and restless. This was driving her more crazy then the fleas ever did. I ended up having to rush her to the hospital at six in the morning after not sleeping at all that night, because I couldn't stand to see her acting the way she was. The vet told me about how they have been having problems with this product and thankfully I got her in there when I did because this product is basically a poison. If I hadn't gotten my dog in there as soon as I did they would have had to hospitalize her and I could have lost her. She had to be given a shot to relax her muscles so she could calm down and I have been giving her Robaxin ever six to eight hours. It has been about three days since the incident and she still isn't completely back to normal. THIS STUFF IS POISON!

I bought Sergeant's Gold Flea & Tick Squeeze on for Dogs at Wal-Mart 4 days ago - trying to save a few bucks since it's November and I really didn't want to spend the $50 on Frontline. Within an hour of applying the product to my 2-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, he was having a terrible reaction to it. He was shaking, scratching, breathing very shallow, shaking his ears as if they were wet, and turning around very abruptly to look at his rear end as if something was biting it - every time he did this he yelped and screamed in pain. My husband immediately went on the Web and found post after post about how other dog owners experienced the exact same thing. We immediately bathed him several times in dish soap (as instructed for dogs who have had a reaction) and gave him Benadryl. It is now 4 days later and my dog is no better. He is completely lethargic, still turning around as if something is on him and when he does he screams in pain - this coming from a dog who is normally running around and playing happily. He will not walk anywhere by himself because as soon as I stand him up he jerks around and starts yelping. I became so concerned yesterday that I took him to my vet. They examined him, gave him a cortisone shot, and sent me home with a course of prednisone for him to take for the next week. It’s been well over 24 hours since he's been on the medication and he is showing no signs of improvement. He is eating and drinking - but I need to physically bring the food and water to him because he refuses to walk around.

All of this because I tried to save a few bucks buying a product that advertises on its website that its "Better than Frontline at less than 50% the price." It also says on the packaging that it kills fleas in one hour – they should also mention that it may kill your pet in an hour too! I used the product exactly as directed and this is what I ended up with. Instead of saving a few dollars I ended up with a vet bill over $140 and a dog that is still not well - not to mention the emotional pain I feel for doing this to my "baby." I cannot believe that a product like this is still on the shelves. If you google the product's name there is website after website with people's heartbreaking stories about how this product has harmed their beloved pets. This is more than a Consumer Affairs issue, it's also cruelty to animals. I have already lodged a complaint against them on the consumer affairs site, contacted PETA, and wrote a scathing letter to Sergeant's letting them know that I will be contacting the local media (I live in the NYC metro area) and Wal-Mart to see what I can do to stop the sale of this poison.

I just want my baby to get back to normal. I feel so guilty for doing this to him.

I administered this product on my shih tzu. I thoroughly read the box and insert in the box. The only warnings are not to use on cats and a "sensitivity" to dogs. There is NO warning that this product may actually poison your pet. My poor shih tzu had to be rushed to the emergency animal hospital where she had to be kept overnight on IV fluids and meds. There is a HUGE difference between sensitivity and poisoning. I contacted Sergeant's and hope to hear from them soon (fingers crossed). I also found a number where you can report things like this. It is to the EPA National Pesticide Telecommunications Network and the number is 1-800-858-7378. They take reports and can make the company either change the labeling or remove it from the shelf!! Please spread the word. This product can poison your pet!!!!

I had to take my dog Linden to the emergency vet on Saturday night – then to another vet (The Marina Animal Clinic) on Sunday. I put some sergeants GOLD flea and tick on him Saturday morning (I bought at Wal-mart) and apparently vets and consumers are trying to get it off the shelf. I didn’t know anything was wrong with him until about 8 hours after I applied it – had I paid attention I’d have noticed immediately that he was not well – it is like he couldn’t sit still and he kept barking and doing this low under the radar type of whine. I spent the entire day on my front porch and only took him out side for a walk once – where he kept eating grass (which I’ve never seen him do) – apparently animals do this sometimes when they are sick. Once I sat down with him – he kept laying his head on me and crying and then he would lay in his bed for 60 seconds – then get up and lay on me – then get up and lay on the floor. I immediately got online to see about the Sergeants and immediately came across hundreds of horror stories – some going on in real time – where animals were sick from this stuff. I quickly bathed him – used joy (dawn is recommended) - and he really started crying - the skin on his back was pink and somewhat burned – HE NEVER ONCE TRIED TO GET OUT of the bathtub if that tells you anything. I took him to the emergency vet – and they thought I had gotten most of it off and he would be okay – he wasn’t ticking or anything with him because he was scared and shivering from the bath. I took him home and the symptoms seem to get worse – I called the emergency vet again and they told me to get him benadryl – to help with symptoms and allow him to sleep. They said the usual dosage is 1 mg per pound – but to give him a double dose – he is 12 pounds – so he basically took one 24 mg tablet. The emergency Vet said to take him to the vet the next day. The benadryl made him sleepy – but he still couldn’t sleep - he kept twitching or ticking like something was wrong with his nerves. I was up the entire night on Saturday into Sunday morning with him b/c he couldn’t sleep – and would only lay still if I rubbed his neck or petted him. I gave him another bath at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning and then took him to the Marina Animal Clinic as soon as they opened. They usually hook them up to IV fluids – to flush out what is in their system – but that usually requires overnight stay and the alternative was a very strong muscle relaxer to get him to stop ticking and encourage him with liquids – children’s pedialite, chicken broth -we took the shot because I didn’t want to leave him and the vet said he would probably be okay. Linden finally fell asleep around 4 pm. Sunday and he slept until this morning.

The vet gave me a FORM FDA 1932a – it is a form that you can fill out for an adverse drug reaction involving an animal. The Marina told me that they see at least one animal a day as a result of Sergeants, Hartz and Bio-spot. Many of the cats and dogs don’t survive – there are more reactions for cats than dogs. I think the only reason Linden didn’t have as severe of a reaction is because I didn’t get the entire tube on him as I spilled out some of it when I cut the tube open. The vet said they have seen entire families – like with three dogs – where they all the dogs got sick from it. I didn’t apply it wrong or give him the wrong dose either. I usually use frontline but was trying to save a buck – big mistake. Most animals start foaming at the mouth, can’t walk and many end up dying. The vet said the smartest thing I did was the baths and he asked that I let everyone I know – with or without pets of what is going on as they are working on getting it off the shelf. Some local vets have even contacted wal-mart in an effort to get it off the shelf. If you know someone with or without an animal – please let them know what is going on

If you get online and type in Sergeants Flea and Tick Poison or Hartz Flea and Tick reaction – you will come across dozens of websites and blogs that documents daily the horrible reaction dogs and cats have to this every day.

This is insane! This crap should be taken out of the stores and not allowed to be sold. I experienced some of the same symptoms that have previously been mention. Lucky, the reaction was not as strong as some of the others I have read about. I would have never known any of this stuff if I wouldn't have looked up any of the side effects that could happen. Who would have known all of this would have popped up! After staying up all night, crying, making sure that my little dog was going to be ok, I was crazy! I took her to the vet this am, just to let them check her over. They said she looked ok, that she was still going to have the ticks and head shakes for a couple of days. That the stuff had to work it's way through her system, that it has an effect on them neurological!!! They sent me home with a muscle relaxer, just so the ticks wouldn't be so bad. I feel horrible that I have put my little girl through all of this!
