Do not use SERGEANT'S GOLD FLEA AND TICK SQUEEZE ON

Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick Squeeze-On for Dogs. I applied this product to my dog as directed, and within hours she was vomiting, foaming at the mouth, drooling and had no control of her legs. I was NOT happy with this product AT ALL. Thank God she is okay now, after calling my vet and doing what they told me to do. We had to immediately bathe her with dishwashing liquid, and then start getting her to take in water and chicken broth. She is very tired now and resting, but doing okay....IMMEDIATE difference after getting that crap off her. I absolutely WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this product to ANYONE !!!

Has anyone else had a problem with this product ??

I am interested to know how your pet is doing at this point? Can you tell if there have been any long lasting effects? Anything like trouble walking?

Hello.Ijust read your story and others about the Sergeants gold flea & tick squeeze on.Our dog went through the same thing last Friday. My boyfriend put that stuff on her.I came home from work around 6:30 pm.I notice,Cleo acting as if she was afraid of something. He said he took her for a walk first then put the Sergeant`s on her.She started to shake her head as if something was in her ears. She would get up from laying down ,up and down ,up and down.Wondering around like she was delerious or lost. She then threw up.She threw up foamy, wet and watery vomit. She did that about 4 diifferent times. She rowed on ther back with all 4 legs curled up.I did not know what was wrong with her.I of course know she was sick and came to the conclusion that that stuff did it! Some other stuff we use,Sergeant,I think it was blue tubes or something.Cleo never got sick from that.We watched her since then. Now it has been a week she still bites and lick the area near her tail.It is reddish pink. I was surprised and felt bad for her.I guess my friend was trying to save some money by using the product.I wish he did not buy that brand.I am not sure if the other Sergeant that has blue tubes were avalible. She is coming along, slowly.

Wow,
Thank you Kristina for getting attention on this. This product is obviously not safe. Almost everyone that replyed had the same thing. We need to put a petition or something together to get this off the shelf! At first I was thinking your dog had an allergic reaction, but since so many dogs have experienced this, I'm thinking it's harmful and poisonous.

Please Never use over counter flea products Ever. Never use anything that says Hartz. This is a common know animal killer. No Hartz products ever. ONLY use what your Vet prescribes. A couple more bucks but an ounce of preventation is worth a pound of cure or possible death. BE carefull of all over counter products if U are not a Real experienced Dog, Cat person who knows these things and what to look for as well as food. Bobbie

I used a product similar to this (may have been Hartz) on my cats back in the summer. One cat was perfectly fine, but the next day I woke to find a huge, bloody sore exactly where I had applied the medication on my male. I felt SO HORRIBLE for hurting one of my fur-babies. I started ordering Revolution and have not had another problem since... or seen another flea.

How is this product still being sold?!?! My sister and I put this on our two dogs last night and we decided to put them in their crates so they wouldn't get the product all over the house. They normally whine for a little bit when they first get in their crates so we continued to do out homework until 15 minutes later we look over and my dog is strangely staring at us drooling and foaming out of her mouth everywhere. Probably the most horrific thing I've ever seen considering she is like my child. I didn't know if she was dying or what. I frantically called the emergency vet while my sister called the number off of the box. We were both told to wash them off with dawn dish soap and either feed them crackers or put chicken broth in their water to settle their stomachs. Why is there no warning of this on the box!?!? My gosh, I am just so glad we were home before their symptoms got any worse. We could have applied it on them and then left for the day not knowing the dangers of what could have happened. After so many stories I've read on here, this product CLEARLY should not be sold.

I bought Sergeant's Gold on Sunday, Jan 4, 2009 at Walmart and it was the biggest mistake of my life. Thank goodness I didn't apply the whole tube. I had to bathe my yorkie twice with Dawn and then gave him chicken broth and dry bread. He scatched and scratched and then became jumpy and sickly. I think if I had used the whole tube, I no doubt would have had to take him to the animal hospital emergency room! I am so angry that as many incidents as I have read on the internet that Walmart would keep selling this poison. It has to be poisonous because there is no way it should affect a dog that quickly!!!

It is poison. I had the same thing happen to my shih tzu. Please don't drop this issue! I hope you have contacted Walmart, the EPA and Sergeant's to file complaints and try to get this product off the market.

Thank God for the first post by kristina! I put a few dabs of Sergeants Gold Flea & Tick squeeze on my huge 8 wk old puppy (pit/rott) "bear-bear" & about an hr later she threw up. She had been whining but I didnt pay attention b/c I thought she just wanted to go back outside. After she threw up I just figured she ate to much & it finally had an effect on her being she greedy as heck & loves to eat. When I went to wipe her face w/ her face cloth it was awfully wet under her mouth, chin & chest. I used a paper towel & it got soaking wet. I opened her mouth & almost fell out! She was foaming at the mouth. I rememberd that dang flea tick squeeze b/c my 8 month old (chi/dobie) "poochi" use to have a bad reaction (choking & throwing up) which is why I used very little on bear-bear. I though poochi was just allergic to it which is why I still had it. Anyway, w/ the foaming I started to panic & knew something wasn't right. I quickly googled it while holding her limp body in one arm & luckily hit this site & read Kristina's post. I had everything, the dawn, the chicken broth & even a squirty thing to force feed my bearded dragon when she was sick. I used that to force more liquids into bear-bear. She than cried for me to put her on top of my bed so she could sleep next to poochi & I guess he can tell she's sick b/c he didn't object like he usually does. She has her own comfy doggie bed right next to the food. Well she's resting now but in the a.m I'm going to get on these contacts in these other postings & make my complaints. I'm also going to contact Walmart where I bought this from & give them a peice of my mind! Were having a rainstorm, it's almost midnight & my car is in the shop! If it wasn't for this site I don't know what I would have did b/c I was in a hysterical panic. Thank you so much!

I've used hartz over the counter flea products on my dogs for many years with no ill effect. Perhaps no problems were experienced because my briards have a double coat preventing the chemicals from reaching the skin.

Nevertheless, I am immediately throwing the stuff out into the garbage can. SCARY!!!!!!!

Flea investations can usually be controlled by a few hot soapy bathes, and ticks can be removed manually with tweasers. Safer is always better!

seems like it's an allergic reaction for most pets, maybe not necessarily poisoning.......
i've used hartz and seageants gold on all my cats many times and had no issues. the more and more i hear about these products the more glad i am that i don't use them anymore. my vet recently gave me revolution. it's the dog type but they have me give a very small amount and it seems to be working well. besides tanto having a little bit of skin irritation and fur loss but the vet said that it was fine and normal.

Any more you can't trust hardly anything especially at Wal Mart...I've had to change my dogs food...they LOVED Old Roy Kibbles and Chuncks...but it started making my pit sick and he had been eating it for years...well...I got tired of it...I think it was the red dye that did it but not sure but since I've changed to pedigree...the kind with veggies...they both look and feel much better...Burner...my pit..isn't shedding as much either.
I only use Frontline Plus on both my dogs...works great and I trust it...
