I agree with Barbara. If my husband ever hit me that would be the end of it. Man should NEVER hit a woman and people should not hit their animals repeatly. If it is for discipline and just a slap on their rump, is one thing, but hitting them repeatly and kicking them and slapping them hard is unacceptable. That is abuse!
Women stay for financial reasons, perhaps they won't be able to take kids or he has good lawyers, they can't bring pets if they leave, have no family or friends to move in with, women's shelter is packed or require groups and counseling that woman doesnt need, she experienced abuse as a child and it is 'normal' for her to deal with it, etc. I think a lot of the time she is putting the needs of her kids, pets ahead of hers and figures she can handle the abuse better than they could handle lliving in a car. Maybe she is looking to the future, saving money until the day she can leave. Maybe he is crazy and really will kill her and the cops are no help. There are many reasons why women stay with abusive men.
Sorry but, I have hit my dog a few times, not to being mean, but to educate and tell her not to do some things in the house, like peeing in the living room... Well, she doesn't do it anymore, because if she does, she know what will happen... I'm not gonna hit her again, just my expression will reveal everything.
The point is... I have never hit my girlfriend or a friend, just because. I'm not even a fighting-lover person. They're animals, and that's different. They are not like us, who have capability of reasoning, intuition, thinking. They have to be educated different, with actions, because they dont even understand our language, come on...
There must be some posts missing, cause a lot of the responses on this thread make no sense...??
Anyway, I think there is the capacity for a person who maliciously abuses animals - hits them for no reason, beats them because *they* had a bad day (that has nothing to do with the animal or anything they did), has the capacity to harm a person. I don't think every single person that may lightly swat their pet once or twice on the rear for misbehaving (which I have never done personally) is going to turn around and start smacking their significant other or child around. But anyone who viciously/maliciously abuses an animal I would think would most likely turn around and start on the family/friends or strangers...hard to say. If the person's already an all-around angry, unhappy person, I suppose the chance is higher it would happen. Hard to say though that every person would be that way though...
That’s like saying because I beat up some guy at a bar I am going to beat you up....
Or because I might hit you means I will hit my dog.
There are so many other aspects of your relation ship with this person that should give you a better answer to this question. Every time I have gotten hit by someone in my life I knew it was coming and not because that person hit a animal.... As a matter of fact to my knowledge not one person I have ever fought in my life has hit a animal.
Not to mention it takes a real coward to hit a animal who cant fight back. Its like the guy who beats his wife. He is rude and condescending to her but when I confront him he is all yes sir no sir.
This question is so ridiculously circumstantial.
I see how all violence is connected but come on, one thing never means another. Its not a guarantee.
"Not to mention it takes a real coward to hit a animal who cant fight back. Its like the guy who beats his wife. He is rude and condescending to her but when I confront him he is all yes sir no sir."
I totally agree with this...and this includes people that beat children, the ones that cannot defend themselves. I categorize that in the same category as animal abuse.
Agreed - there was a story this morning about a man who was beating his 10 year old son for...heaven forbid..."going into his mother's room". He whipped him with electrical cords, burned him twice with an iron, and the kid ran into the apartment hallway screaming for help. His mother yanked him back inside to continue to be beaten. The child climbed into the oven for refuge (I can't imagine being so scared I'd climb in an oven), the "father", if he can even be called that, turned it on. The cops showed up after a neighbor reported it, and took the child out of the home. As he was being removed, they had to restrain the 'parents' (again, term used loosely here) who were shouting how they were going to "give that kid a whoopin'" later on - in front of the cops. Safe to say he won't be returning to the house, at least I hope not.
Anyway, long and sad story short, it was mentioned that three dogs had been taken away because of the animal abuse that occurred by the same man. I guess it's a news story of how an animal abuser was also a child abuser...so in that family's case (not the case of all families/people), animal abuse either occurred before or in tandem with child abuse. I hope the guy gets life in prison for what he did to that poor child and his dogs. He's a terrible excuse for a human and a coward for hurting defenseless animals and his small child. That poor kid is going to need a lot of therapy to recover from the malicious punishment he was dealt for something as ridiculous as "entering his mom's room". Who knows how long he endured abuse like that for stupid, trivial things like that. Made me sick.
I have been in a mental, physical abuse situation at one time and let me tell you something, when it comes to a abusive person, they will take it out on cars, walls, anything around at first, then comes the animals, they are next, they will hit them, kick them, throw them, yell at them, cuss them and then comes you, you will be next. if this special person is showing signs of being mean to a animal, stay away from them please, your life could become endangered as the animals has. physical abuse is not fun and if this person will take his anger out on a innocent animal, then yes he will take it out on you. thanks for asking. Karen
