I will not leave the house on the 4th. I always worry that my pets get so scared, bc they hear the fireworks and so on. Specially my one dog is a little baby. My father in law stepped on her food once and she cried and screamed on the top of her lungs for (no joke) 20min! However, it wasn't even that bad and she walked fine...she is just my little baby...
Everybody already calls us crazy, since we will not go out, but I could not have fun knowing my pets are scared at home.
At the very least, not bringing your pets to watch the fireworks is the right idea; the loud noises can be pretty stressful. Check out the A's tips for a pet friendly 4th: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/pet-care-tips/july-4th.html
haha, it is illegal in OH i think, but nobody cares. Our neighbors are big hillbillies and save all year for buying massive amounts of fireworks.. the start on the 3rd and do not stop until the 5th..
I would never leave my lads home alone on days such as New Years or the fourth of July. They need to feel safe above all else fun is something you can enjoy on other days where fireworks are not included. Lisbeth and the lads.
I used to think my cat would be upset... until the first couple times fireworks went off near my apartment. She essentially sleeps through them and if she does wake up it is to give a quick sneer at the window, a quick bite to eat, and then it's back to bed for her.
Unfortunately, in NH where I live, fireworks are legal for amateur use. Just yesterday someone set off something really huge (noise wise) near us while out walking next to my home. (one of my neighbors, I suspect)
Fortunately, my Jenny isn't as disturbed by fireworks as by thunder. She just likes to come lay down near me and go to sleep (while being petted, of course). This is good because we are likely to hear fireworks off and on for more than a month.
I suggest closing doors and windows, turning up the music or tv and having on noisy appliances (like the dishwasher, clotheswasher/dryer and/or airconditioner).
My sister and I do everything in our power to relieve our basset hounds from 4th of July fears. We turn the TV up so that they don't hear the fireworks.
Come on in and talk about anything your heart desires as long as you respect others. You do not have to talk about animals. Post a joke, a story you read, let out your frustrations etc.
Be Nice!
