Homeless pets

when ever someone has a pet, and they become homeless, where do their pets go, should they open shelters for pets and their humans to go to? or should they take the fees away to take a pet to the shelter? or are their exceptions for homeless people to take their pets to the pound without having to pay?

especially when kids are involved, sometimes your pet is your only friend, when my mom lost her job, i was 5, we had to live in a shelter for half a year, we had to get rid of trucker, we were lucky to give bear to a friend.

pets are family members nobody should have to go without them, but what about the people who just got foreclosed on, and they now have to live in an apartment building, most apartments in illinois don't allow dogs, that is something i know has to change. I'm liking that idea of the shelter being not only for humans, but also pets. I dunno, but something has to change.

This is a hard one to figure out. I really wish there were shelters that would help homeless with their pets get back on their feet, the government should really get involved in this. Some place where they could go, get help to get back on their feet, and stay off the streets and away from drugs/alcohol, and a place where their pet can stay with them (animals do make the worst of times a little easier to handle) and be fed and taken care of. If I had millions of dollars, or at least some money to work with, I'd love to create a place like that. Living around the DC area, we have a lot of homeless people on the streets...I have yet to see any pets with them...but I don't know where the pets went if they had them before they became homeless.

not sure, but in some cases i heard of the pets owners just leaving their animals behind, to fend for themselves, that must be a horrible thing to witness, my heart would drop if i seen a poor dog walking in his own feces, starving, GOD.

One of my friends went on some mission trip to somewhere in South America I think. While she was there helping rebuild towns this stray dog kept following her around. She thought the dog was cool so she payed attention to her, fed her, and spent time with her. The area in SA she went to is notorious for having tons of stray dogs run around...just like we have plenty of stray cats in the US. She lived in this town for a few weeks and hung out with this dog for the duration of her time there. Then they moved my friend to another town, not too far away, for a few more weeks. Somehow this same dog found her miles away at the house she was staying in and laid down on her doorstep. Katie (my friend) was so amazed and by now was so attached that she brought her back home with her to the USA, and had her for 9+ years. Her name was Alma. Katie took Alma everywhere with her, anywhere she went it didn't matter, the dog went too! She was an amazing owner, and Alma had a connection to her from the second they met until the day she died. Kudos to Katie for her devotion to this stray dog, and giving her the best life Alma could possibly have!
