Hi, I'm new to this website and hopes that someone can guide me in what I should do with our dog. About two months ago my dog started to scratch and lick herself and got some rash. We took her to the vet and tried different shampoos, food, flea pill, meds and still no idea what was happening. Now she's either scratching or biting her fur off. I can't stand to look at her becuase it makes me so sad to see her like this. We are contemplating of either giving her up or putting her down so she doesn't suffer anymore. We are more than willing to take her to the vet again but with these times we need to try to find a vet that will allow us to make payments. We just can't afford to take her to see the vet and pay up front. We love our dog, she's an indoor doog and gets plenty of loves and kisses. If anyone has any suggestion please let me know.

Thanks, Zel

Have you tried Sulfadene medication? Another resource is to e-mail animalhelp@bestfriends.org they have vets on staff that have dealt with many different types of skin conditions, including allergies.
Yes, animals can have allergies just like humans. It only takes a few moments to send the e-mail and they might have some ideas that will help also.

Good luck,

Barbara

I think that your dog could be allergic to fleas because the same thing happened to my bichon poo, bella. her skin got a big scab and the vet gave her some pills and it cleared up in 3 days. hope this helps,

Sounds like allergies, just like people dogs can get bad allergies-My dog gets allergies shots-I tested her and she is allergic to mold, grass and 6 kinds of trees! She's on prednisone 2x a week and I give her allergy shots, she is controlled but still itches a bit. Allergy testing is not cheap and the shots are about $300, for about 6 months worth initially, then ou can give her less-a good vet should let give you a payment plan if you cannot pay all at once.

somthing similar happened to my guinea pig, he was scratching and biting at himself, he took off all his fur as well, it turned out he had a fungus infection
you might be seeing the early stages of a fungus infection
I think an allergy is more likely, but I would go online and do research

i looked and you may want to check this site out, it may help a little, because only you know the exact symptoms
