Hi we are looking at adopting a pure Siberian husky...Does anyone have one? Were they really that hard to train and are that destructive. We are avid hiker's runners climber etc. We have nice sized yard we have kids that are 7 &under....Anyone have any thoughts. Pls help me out need to make decision...We used to have a boxer and a half lab/malmute mix loved them but they got very sick...

I have 3 Siberian Huskies, and for the most part yes they are everything that you have read...they are fiercely independent, they get bored easily, they are very headstrong, they are stubborn, all of which make them "difficult" to train for inexperienced dog owners. Destruction comes from being bored, not getting enough exercise, being left unattended for too long. Crating is a great way to avoid unattended destruction, exercise and lots of it are the second step to a happy Sibe. Next is a well fenced yard, 6' minimum and that's no lie. These dogs are very good at being escape artists...which leads to the next bit, these dogs are NOT an off leash breed EVER...each outing needs to be secured with a leash. For more "info" please read:
