Sierra Club Action:: Repower America with Renewable Energy
A strong renewable electricity standard (RES) is essential to creating new jobs, boosting the economy and fighting global warming. Right now the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources is considering a bill that would establish an RES and boost the amount of energy we produce from renewable energy sources like wind, solar and biomass, but coal and nuclear are pushing hard to be included.

Sierra Club Action: Protect Streams and Communities from Hazardous Mining Waste
The Obama administration has recently taken an important step towards putting an end to the reckless coal mining that has gone on for the past eight years. EPA's decision to carefully review permits for new mountaintop removal coal mines is essential first step to protect waterways from destruction and communities from a reduced quality of life.
However, oversight alone is not enough -- to truly bring an end to the destruction that has gone on for the past eight years, the Obama administration must issue a new rule which prohibits the dumping of mining waste into waterways.
Urge EPA Administrator Jackson to keep mining waste out of our streams!

HSUS Action: Help stop internet and captive hunting
I just took action on an online HSUS campaign to stop Internet
and captive hunting. This abhorrent practice entails confining
exotic animals in an enclosed space with no chance of escape,
and allowing people to shoot them at close range, sometimes even
remotely over the Internet! If you go to the link below you can
send your own message directly to your U.S. Representative. It
only takes a minute. Here is the link:

HSUS Action: Can you tell the difference between dog fur and fake fur on a jacket?
urge your legislators to support and co-sponsor The Truth in Fur Labeling Act of 2009
A new federal bill called The Truth in Fur Labeling Act of 2009
has just been introduced in both the House and the Senate. It
would require all garments made with animal fur to say so on the
label, so that consumers can make an informed decision about
whether we want to support the fur trade and its practices of
skinning animals alive, and putting pets at risk of dying in
traps.
I hope you will join me and urge your legislators to support and
co-sponsor this animal and consumer protection legislation. It
will only take a minute. Here is the link:

Wilderness Society Action: Arctic Refuge Threatened by New Drilling Proposal, Urge Your Senators to continue to keep Big Oil out of theArctic Refuge.
In the far north of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, longer,
warmer days trigger migrations of thousands of caribou and
hundreds of thousands of birds. Grizzlies, polar bears and
wolves are also congregating on the coastal plain of the Refuge.
This wildlife dance has been going on for thousands of years,
but it could be cut short if Big Oil wins its effort to drill in
this incomparable place.
I just asked my Senators to continue to keep Big Oil out of the
Arctic Refuge. You can take quick action too.

Ocean Conservancy Action: Tell Congress to Keep Moving Forward on Climate Change
Recently, the House Energy & Commerce Committee took a historic step, at long last approving legislation that will tackle head-on the serious threat posed by climate change. We expect the House to vote on this bill soon.
The ocean is the first victim of climate change. Widespread effects brought on by higher air and water temperatures include loss of sea ice, sea level rise, extreme weather events, and harmful changes to marine fish and wildlife populations.
Our ocean has absorbed more than half the carbon dioxide we have pumped into our atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels. This has left our ocean more acidic — threatening many ocean organisms, particularly corals and important species at the base of the ocean food web.
This step marks a historic beginning. But our elected officials need to know that voters want them to follow through.
Please take a moment to send this message to Congress, encouraging them to keep moving forward on this climate change legislation and send a bill to President Obama that will protect our planet.

Center for Biological Diversity Action: Tell EPA: Deploy the Clean Air Act Now to Fight Climate Change
On April 24, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson took a first step toward regulating greenhouse pollution under the Clean Air Act by issuing a proposed finding that greenhouse gas emissions "endanger public health and welfare." At the conclusion of the ongoing public comment period, the Environmental Protection Agency must finalize the finding, and then -- at long last -- issue regulations to reduce greenhouse pollution. Despite this forward momentum, the Obama administration is under intense pressure from industry to postpone or forgo the regulations.
The Clean Air Act is our nation's leading tool for the reduction of greenhouse pollution, with a proven track record of success in reducing traditional air pollutants. Yet the Act's very effectiveness makes it the primary target of industries and politicians that continue to oppose solutions to the climate crisis. The Environmental Protection Agency needs to hear from millions of Americans in support of Clean Air Act regulation for greenhouse gases. Please send your letter by the June 23 deadline.

Green For All Action: Write Congress: Clean energy jobs for America's workers
Right now, Congress is crafting a historic bill that could transition America to a clean energy economy: The American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA).
But the bill needs to be strengthened to make sure America's workers and communities fully benefit from the clean energy economy.
I just wrote to my Representatives, asking them to strengthen the bill by investing in a green-collar workforce and improving access to good jobs.

Save Our Environment Action: Tell Your Representative: Act on the Global Warming Bill Today!
A revolutionary new bill that would fight global warming and usher in a new, clean-energy future was just passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. But it still faces a vote from the entire House of Representatives.
The American Clean Energy and Security Act – if strengthened to do more for renewable energy and energy efficiency, and then passed – would usher in a clean energy future that will revitalize our economy and hold polluters accountable.
Now is our chance to make this landmark legislation a reality! We must flood the House of Representatives with messages demanding their support and quick action.

NRDC Biogems Action: Protect Yellowstone's Newborn Buffalo
Ask the Obama administration to protect buffalo that roam outside Yellowstone National Park into Montana.
It is unconscionable that more than 1,600 of Yellowstone's
buffalo were slaughtered last year. And it is senseless that our
government agencies cruelly haze buffalo from Horse Butte to
allegedly protect cattle that do not exist.
With your help, we will prevail on the Obama administration to
prevent future buffalo slaughters and allow buffalo to roam free
year-round on Horse Butte.

IDA Action: Help end animal circuses in Greece and hold this circus accountable for the terrible abuse of Andra by spreading the news internationally and helping them locate experts to assist with their cause.
When IDA recently received this sickening video of a female elephant named Andra being beaten with a bullhook (ankus) at a circus in Greece, we immediately contacted the animal advocates who are working on this situation there.
The Greek organizations PSYCHANIMAL and ARCTUROS report that the perpetrator is a trainer with an Italian circus named MASSIMO. The video has been released to the media in Greece and it has attracted much attention and concern. Encouragingly, the Minister of Agriculture has apparently issued a press release promising to ban animal circuses in Greece after the European elections take place. Let's hold the Minister to that pledge.
We have offered to assist these groups with their effort to end animal circuses in Greece and hold this circus accountable for the terrible abuse of Andra by spreading the news internationally and helping them locate experts to assist with their cause.
Stay tuned for further details from IDA as to how you can help. In the meantime, please send an e-mail to the Minister of Agriculture, the Greek parliament, and two major Greek newspapers.
Here are all their e-mail addresses in one string to cut-and-paste:
minister@minagric.gr ; infopar@parliament.gr ; epistoles@tovima.gr ; epistoles@tanea.gr
_______________________________________________________________
And here's a sample letter, which you can use as is, but it will have greater effect if you use your own words:
Sample e-mail:
I am horrified by the video now circulating on the internet of an elephant being beaten in a circus in Greece.
I strongly urge the Government to immediately confiscate the elephant from the circus and work with animal welfare groups to place the elephant in a more suitable home. You should also punish the circus responsible for this abuse.
Finally, I urge you to endorse a ban on the exploitation of animals by circuses in Greece.
Sincerely,
