My mother loves to spray Lysol disinfectant in the air whenever there are any bathroom functions in the house (her, me, the dogs...). She sprays it quite a bit and it tastes horrible and singes my nose. I'm sure it would do that to a dog too right? She has a Miniature Schnauzer and I have a German Shepherd, and the Schnauzer has been exposed to this stuff even at close range almost weekly for 8 years until recently. He used to have gas from a poor diet of ProPlan (now gone!) and every time he passed gas, she would spray near his rear end because it smelled. Could he get cancer from this? I got my mother to cut down on the usage 90%, but I worry that the Schnauzer could already have permanent damage in his lungs or liver. Both dogs are very healthy and energetic otherwise.

I doubt it would cause cancer but it can be irritating and might aggravate breathing problems. Glad she is agreeing to back off.

I'm putting this here in hopes it helps others as well as Schnauzer. While doing research for my psych class I found out how dangerous chemicals & toxins are in sprays, house cleaning supplies & some foods. All the side effects & damage it has caused in humans over the years was shocking. Researchers also feel this contributes to hormone imbalance in infants causing some females to have more male hormones(visa versa), etc. I dont want to turn this into a biology report, or get deep w/ it, but y'all get the idea. Until I could get a good air purifyer (which I learned the huge difference between having one & not having one after reading hundreds of reviews), I put my son's square tropical fish container in his rm & closed the door before spraying 'Kills Flu Virus' Lysol Disinfectant (kills viruses, bacteria, mold & mildew) in the living rm & took both dogs out to play in the back. Someone w/ a bad flu recently left so I decided to go ahead & use the product. I opened all the windows & doors 15 min later & an hr before bringing them back in the house. I forgot about the fishes til a few days later. My son was gone at his dads. I brought the tank, which has a cover, out and just knew they'd be completely safe from toxins in the Lysol spray. My God, the next morn I went to feed the fish & almost fell out. There was a thin film of gook covering the entire top of the water. I cleaned that out running tissue thru it. Slowly but surely w/ in a wk the film came back but look like a thin film of gas, like when gas hits water on the ground at the gas station. The rocks & ornaments started turning brown & brown looking gook started building along side of the tank's glass. This has NEVER happened in the 3 yrs we've had these fish. After showing friends, I told them just imagine what ppl's lungs look like who use Lysol on a reg basis, worst yet, the pets! (Quote: Do you think the major products are safe? WRONG! Lysol is even more dangerous than we thought. It contains phenols and dioxin (Agent Orange). See 'other ingredients').
