BSL is a forum dedicated to a number of ‘Bull Breeds’ – the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the Bull Terrier the Bull Terrier (Miniature), the Bulldog, the Bullmastiff, the French Bulldog, the Boston Terrier & the Amstaff. Additionally there are some other core breeds that have been introduced in 2008 - Cane Corso, DDB, Presa Canario, Dogo Argentino, Boerboel and the American Bulldog . Educating the public about BSL

The goal of this Community is to share and provide information in an effort to educate the public and its policy makers about responsible dog ownership, dispel common myths and misconceptions, create political and media accountability and preserve the Constitutional Rights of dog owners, regardless of breed. We collect and analyze data and information to explore causes and potential solutions to the conflicts and challenges created by dog ownership in modern society. We examine ways in which a community can balance the increasing focus on public safety with reasonable expectations and practical decisions. We promote dog bite prevention education, dog training and socialization, considerate animal husbandry practices, strict liability for failure to comply with leash and containment and adequate funding for the enforcement of non breed biased animal control policies. We celebrate the unique bond between our two species and encourage a sense of pride in ownership. We are quickly losing our rights to responsibly own and care for our dogs because of increasingly restrictive and prohibitive legislation without ever addressing the real issues.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To help as many families and bull breeds affected by BSL. Educating the public and awareness to the facts. Together we can all make a difference.

WE DO NOT SUPPORT ANY FORM OF DOG FIGHTING
No matter if you call it a roll, a match, or a gametest, if you believe there is even one good reason to throw two dogs in the pit and watch them tear each other apart, or if you admire the work of dogmen to preserve the original purpose of the breed, you are not at the right place.

MURDER IN MIAMI!!!!!

http://wn.wsvn.com/global/video/flash/popupplayer.asp?clipId1=4019421&flvUri=http://pserver.mii.instacontent.net/wsvn//wsvn_200908052..

Dear Members,

We regret to inform you that the dog involved in the so-called "vicious attack" on the mail carrier, has been put down. The dog was put to sleep an hour after the incident occurred, without a chance to survive. Although we immediately contacted the News Station, Miami Dade Animal Services and the Mayor's office, our request fell on deaf ears. Our director, Dahlia Canes, even went down to Animal Services to rescue this animal from death, but it was too late. Why weren't these same actions taken on the dog that previously attacked this mail carrier just 11 houses down? This is just another situation where the breed of dog determines the resolution to the problem. We are saddened and upset over this news. There was no investigation before the dog was sentenced to death, or a chance for the owner to really say goodbye the way he deserved to. What the media and others don't realize is that an animal does not react in fear or aggression without a reason. There is a cause to every action and none of this was considered today. What was the outcome of the quick decision to euthanize this animal? There was no reason to immediately take this dog's life. All that this accomplished was a family left devastated because of the loss of their dog. Imagine what it would feel like to be in that owners shoes. I hope that the public uses rationality and realizes the real TRUTH behind this situation. It could have been any dog that reacted this way, even the "next door neighbor's golden retriever." This is just another dramatized incident that the media can use as bait to point the finger at the breed of a dog, rather than the reasons for it's actions.

Please be advised that the letter written by our organization uncovering the TRUTH behind this so-called attack, will be aired on Channel 7 News at 10:00PM and Telemundo (Channel 51) at 11:00PM. It's important that the public understands that this was not an act of "aggression" or "viciousness" but rather an animal reacting out of fear. The real cruelty lies behind the actions of authorities to put this animal to sleep just an hour after the incident occurred.

May this canine rest at ease and may his family find peace after all the anguish.

Remember as Anne stated that it wasn't so long ago that the Doberman was considered a dangerous dog so take heart. By responsible owners taking their canines out into the everyday world and striking down on a daily basis the public's often misguided media driven perceived images of a "dangerous breed" can this issue be driven to where it needs to be..in the past!!!

exactly Jackie....years ago the dobie was considered the "bad" dog....i'm a board member for the Miami Coalition Against BSL and we have been doing everything we can to raise funds (by doing events, setting up a chip-in on our website, etc) to get our lawsuit underway because we can to strike this 20 year old ordinance from the books.
Please feel free to become a member and help support our efforts, even if you don't live in Miami.

Fights against BSL should be targeted against the specific breeds. In Miami-Dade County and many other cities, such as Denver, Colorado, the ban is against bully breeds and dogs resembling bully breeds (which to me is even scarier...you don't have to BE a pit bull, just look like one). In cities where the ban is broader, then, yes, include those breeds in the BSL fight. But where the focus is exclusively on pit bulls, then the fight should focus on pit bulls.

Rottweilers, Dobermans, GSDs and other dogs have had their day when they were the "bad" dogs. Some cities still don't accept them.
But Miami's fight is for the pit bull!
Anne Comment by Anne on August 1, 2009 at 7:09pm
because American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and American Pit Bull Terriers are the ones that are mainly targeted in BSL. GSD, Rotties, Boxers, Dals, etc are NOT being killed in shelters just because they are born those breeds, however, pitties and staffies ARE banned, and there are several other breeds that are being killed because they are being mistaken as Pits, such as Presa's, Dogo's, Alapatta's, certain mastiffs, even American Bulldogs (stupid i know). In Miami-Dade and most other cities where BSL exists, they do NOT ban German Shepherds, Rotties, etc, they ban the Bully breeds, which is hideous for one thing. Second, just because those other breeds are listed on these lists, doesn't mean that they should be banned, and furthermore, these breeds are NOT vicious or aggressive dogs. Bully breeds are the ones getting killed, simply because they are born a bully. Vets can't treat them, they can't be boarded, we technically can't train them in miami-dade, and i have seen puppies get killed at the shelter just because they were PITBULLS, and that's just ridiculous, it's a holocaust. It's an injustice and it's being prejudice. We are focused on the bully breeds, because in Miami, pitties are ILLEGAL, and are killed, these other breeds are NOT, and they are able to be adopted out and live in Miami-Dade County, but bully breeds (Am Staffs, Bully Staffs, and Pits) are NOT, and THAT is why we limit the battle.
Belles Comment by Belles on August 1, 2009 at 1:24pm
I'm not sure why you limit the battle against BSL to just the bull breeds when many other dog breeds constantly make the top 10 list. This should be a concern to every dog owner.. not just bull breed owners.
