I have a 6 year old cat that I adopted from a shelter 9 months ago. About 2 months ago, she started peeing and pooping outside of the litter box. I immediately took her to the vet and after multiple tests, we discovered that she had a bad bladder infection and that she doesn't process her food right, causing crystals to develop in her bladder. She has since been on the prescription Science Diet to dissolve the crystals and was doing great. She has become more outgoing and affectionate and we can tell she feels much better than she ever has.
Then about a month ago, she started marking in a bathroom in the house. I got a Comfort Zone diffuser with feliway and put it in the bathroom. It's been in there for a little over a week and she hasn't gone back in that bathroom to mark. But then yesterday, I came home and she had peed on the rug by the front door, which is literally right next to the bathroom where she was marking.
She had previously peed on the rugs in another bathroom and our solution was to keep the door shut, as I hadn't discovered the feliway yet. Her litter box is kept very clean and its new; she is still using it. Nothing in our life has changed; no new pet additions, no changes in schedule, etc. I feel like I've exhausted my options and I can't have a cat that just pees randomly around the house. Has anyone had this experience or does anyone have any suggestions?
