SMALL KITTEN FOUND LAST WEEK CAN'T CONTROL BOWEL MOVEMENTS

I know, I know the first advise would be a vet. The problem is when taking in so many abandoned animals MONEY, so if there is any advise that can help me try to take care of this problem myself it would be very appreciated by me and "Baby" she eats a bit of dry food drinks water, uses a litter box but most of the time her little poop just falls where it will she might be walking, laying down, playing just any where any time. She isn't constipated and it isn't diarrea. Her and her brother "boots" were dumped on the road last week, boots seems to be just fine. I am guessing they are maybe 5-6 weeks old. Please help if you can!!!

Ginger,

The problem is your cat may have a serious medical condition and no one here is a vet. We can't diagnose your issue if that's what you are looking for.

Sorry, but if you cannot afford veterinary care for the animals you are taking in, then you need to turn in abandoned animals to your local shelter where they will at least have a chance at health care and adoption. By taking in abandoned animals and not giving them proper care, you are only addressing half the problem.

Sorry, but that's how I feel.

Belle, you have no idea the area I live in. There is 1 shelter in a 60 mile area and they are over whelmed. I could I suppose take them there so they could be put to death rather then even attempted to give them a chance and a home.... I think NOT...as Baby cuddles in my lap purring while I reply to you! We Thank you for your imput, but I am already aware of the fact that the best conclusion would be a Vet... I am also aware that Here, the last conclusion would be the shelter that begs on the news weekly for any help they can get and they get little.. I have been there, I have been a part of that HOPE for animals too..
I hate that this is the world we live in where people discard animals like garbage, but I am not sorry for doing everything I can....

Ginger Ann, Sorry but this will probably be long... I am in the same situation and even have lost some.We as some one else mentioned have loads of feral cats and kittens and the birds and wild dogs and other get some, we also are in very high kill area.Lots of great rescues but they are full to the max too. I as you or someone else mentioned do no,DO NOT go looking for them, dogs or cats. They are brought to me, left on my door step etc.I have sadly refused a lot that have called even as many as 5 or more litters on one phone call, also dogs and pups, in many cases I can get them to hold them and I will try to place them for them and past on the info etc, but some as in the 5 liters of kittens would not even contact the folks I gave them info for, but I still had to say no, just can't do any more, but when a kitten is on my door step?! I had to learn that the hard way, even the pound has refused some in years past and sent them to me. In phoenix where one of our best gals, and highly knowledgeable and a true animal lover on these spca groups live, while it is not perfect, but wish I was still there, it is better than some of the places we live and they really do do the best they can for the animals. In my case in Tulsa, or just oklahoma, the law here and is in only 3 states as I understand it is any pound animal by law is open for the test labs upon request other wise many are killed now (and not the needle which at least is fast and peaceful, but by gas ,mixed in with the dogs.) ,dog or cat upon arrival.A neighbors dog was picked up one day and that day before she could get there they killed it.It was compained on by a neighbor and was an old layed back dog, harm no one.I bet as with myself, even if some don't make it etc you have many saved stories, I know I do but I feel like a loser and that I failed them, I want to do more and have given up much to care the best I can and with someone very close to me cusing and complaining about it much of the time.I sure don't like the pain or the hell coming against me for doing what I can and have cut back a lot, no choice sort of the back 2 steps up 1thing. and no help of any kind most of time , sure no donations , just now in trying to work something out with a new vet, but so many are money and not sincere caring, but many do love and care also, I think this one does, and talking with pet finders, but still I have got to quit... the pressure at home is too...well anyway. We can't save them all and in our cases it may seem, and I been told I had no right to do this rescue, but I don't think the several hundred animals that did get good homes and that did live feel that way. Don't even think the ones I lost do either. The worse for me in that was I lost a couple of my own in trying to save others,And maybe my salvation in angry at God, not sure I would do it all over again,BUT?? Probably not put my own in danger, but that is a hard question and no one knows until the situation comes. Like someone said, do what your heart tells you and do what you can.We spend money on these that only God could have provided, I have no income at all and husband, well one day at a time some times none some days some, but they are first for me.Even when it has been months we and they ate, somehow, just not sure how.So can't God provide the rest too? I have saved pups with parvo, and yet the vet put down my dearest dog I ever had and I lost a couple due to parvo. I started this to help animals and people too and considered it a ministry, wrong?? looks like it! sorry? some ways, the pain has been unbelievable and I am not sure I will even survive, nearly lost my left thumb and if it was hands on a clock it would forever be 2:30. When I lost the peanut, I beg God to let me die,and felt almost that bad with any, this where, know it alls that are so mature and better than I will have their negative thoughts or comments , but most here have more class than that.so not to worry.,really doesn't matter anyway. No we only answer to one and until He takes it from your heart, only we have to be able sometimes to say no too, believe me you can destroy your health and even life if not able to say no, just when is a big question we each have to work out.You are doing a good and a important thing and it may be all some will ever have as with the ones I have rescued , I wish you the best, be strong and try to use wisdom but only what you believe.Be open to some of the good folks here maybe, yes I thank God for each of them, but just like you don't listen and just obey anyone else in the world, preachers, teachers husbands whatever.. you decide for yourself. Love ya and my heart is with you, and it looks like many here are also pulling for you. jenniecarroll/tulsa,ok

Dear Jennie, I am afraid as I start to type this that it too will be LONG!...LOL Believe me when I say I understand what you speak of.. for years I went through the hell of rants and raves from hy husband to... from spending $9.99 on 50 lbs of dog food to almost tripping over one of these babies to anything else he could think of to tell me how stupid it was to get so upset and care so much about these babies tossed away like trash. Though it made it VERY hard and much harder then it had to be my heart would never allow me to stop....Never!! I have actually worked my way up from the 2 cats 2 dogs limit I was ordered to follow to 8 cats and 9 dogs.... Yes we lose some and it hurts terribly when we do... but for myself each lose makes me more determined to keep taking them in.. My Rascal "not a stray" disappeared on Christmas morning when at 5:00 am he "had to go" I took him out and was distracted by one of my strays crying and in the miniutes it took to walk over a see why Rascal was gone. We live in the country and To this day I still find myself looking for him when I pass areas we drove when he rode with me, see his dog friends that would bark at him each time and he them.. I went out day after day driving from here in about a 12 mile radious around I land..make that week after week.... I was a total crying mess for months and it still hurts like a fresh wound if I allow myself to think about it for less time then it has taken me to write this.... that happened 4 years ago this Xmas.. and in some ways has make me even more determined. There are things that one must do in order to afford this of course. If you have Kroger in your area they carry 50lb bags of dog food not IAMS but nutritional and costs between $11.99 and $13.99 and there I am sure you know many medical things you can do yourself and save lots of money. I once found a lab that had been caught is some jerks Mini bear traps for days, this was obvious by the brand new steel cable that he finally managed to break from the tree it was attached to. He showed up in my barn. I picked him up put him on the porch. put some water and a bit of food and then a zanax "not spelled right I am sure.. when he finally went to sleep I took the trap off cleaned and bandaged his foot and for a few days kept him fairly out of it except for food, water and carrying him out to go then back in his toes fell off and his foot healed and he lived for a long time. I have one now someone dumped that had the mange, I bought some over the counter stuff for that did the baths, vasiline etc, and after about 2 months he finally started growing hair back and was looking good, but he still had a bad problem with his back legs, he could barely stand up and was in bad pain I gave him a powdered "stanback" sorta like "BC" but better every day then every other and now none he his a happy, happy, silly dog I named him lucky... Many will say that these "Home treatments" are dangerous and just WRONG.... but I can tell you this, Socks, Lucky and many other babies would tell them different. While you do need to research sometimes you just have to go with your gut use what you know or have on hand.. I have never killed one or made them anything but better.. Don't give up unless you just have no choice and even then make sure you can live with that choice without driving yourself crazy with guilt.... I would and you sound like you probably would too.. yell if you need to vent and myself and many others here will help you do it.... and Thank You for caring about this as much as I do and most people on this site, it warms our hearts and makes us stronger I think!! Love to you and all your babies, Ginger

Late response, but it's better then no response at all.

If that's the case, you find a shelter that is no-kill. There are actually many. Or find an association that runs on foster families. We adopted out kitten from Feline Rescue Association in Baltimore. They do not kill any of their animals and try to prevent other shelters from doing it. (also my kitten had URI (upper respiratory infection) and was not euthanized for such a reason.)
There's no excuse for keeping a cat with you when you can not afford the vet bills.
You can also put your cat on Petfinder.com which I believe is free.
Or maybe you should move (kidding), or travel a little distance to find a good shelter that isn't having that problem because not all shelters are over whelmed with animals. :)

I live in Maryland, I do not know where you live, but it's a shame there is such an over population there.

There is NO excuse for Judging me when you don't have a clue what you are talking about Michelle.... You might have done better if you had bothered to read the entire discusion before leaving your rude remarks. Are do you always speak before you think or investigate the truth.. Next time bother to find out the whole story...and by the way the (8) cats that I have taken in and the (5) dogs I have taken in are all doing just fine and they are very happy... I also have no doubt that there will be more to come....Ginger

In the perfect world we would all have money to give our animals the best care ever and the best food ever and all the toys their little hearts desire. Ginger Ann, I understand all too well. I do not go out to find cats and kittens to rescue, they find me. Right now I spend at least $50 a week just on cat food. People drop cats off in my area quite often, it's farmland and they seem to think that they will be fine. They are only fine because I feed them and get them fixed and shots. I get at least 3 requests a week to take in kittens, I usually send the person to the rescue organization I work with. Taking the kitten to the vet would be the best thing to officially diagnose the problem, it could be something as simple as different dietary requirements. You are doing a good thing and don't let other people discourage you. You really have no other option as you stated they would probably be euthanized and then what hope would they have. I know locally here they are so overcrowded at the shelter that if a kitten is brought in with a cold or gunky eyes they are automatically euthanized because they don't have the man power to take care of it. So not to jump on you Belle, but when you do animal rescues sometimes you have to look at other options. My husband says that we could have had a new car a couple times over on what we spend on the cats. I guess that is never going to happen.

I would surely, at the minimum, take the poor kitty to the vet. There's a bit of a chance that it is not serious. I would never assume that an animal's situation is serious, well, never say never. At any rate, I actually have a very handicapped kitty who can't walk or stand (born that way). We have to put diapers on him cause he has no way to get to the litter box. My vet seemed surprised at the prospect of keeping this kitty. He does have several health issues and takes meds but he is usually quite happy, cuddling, purring, etc. So, don't assume it's a life threatening problem, just go to the vet first before jumping to conclusions.

Good for you Mommywoman, It is wonderful that you care enough to Love Kitty, I never, Ever assume that it's life threatening, I always Believe that I can do something for them and I do, reaching out to this community is just one more helping hand for these loving babies, every single piece of knowledge I learn helps them. Lose some certainly... regret it yes... would I have done anything different...No, on the rare occasion that I do lose one... they know they were warm, loved and not alone....the only thing I would have done different....... is been a VET myself or RICH..... Keep doing what you do Mommywoman... we all need to! Ginger

Cats as well as dogs are lactose intolerate so No MILK. These kittens Still need nursing and Walmart has a can of the dry mixable type for lactating kittens. They also have the mixed one in can form however, the refrigerated shelf life is like a baby's and U will be dumping more than using it. That is the first most important step is what U R feeding how often etc. Also U may still need to stimulate the groin area after feeding. The Mother cat does this to help with elimination and gastric disorders. U do this after feeding by using a warm wet wash cloth and gently rubbing the groin and anal area . Please call a vet who will take a postdated check for check up and explain kitten abandonment proper care for survival. You can work out the check to co-inside with your pay deposits and many will even take 2 or 3 checks dated for differant deposit dates. All usually take credit cards. Also U can Pawn something to pay. There is always a way to get help and make things financially workable. Please keep us posted with your follow up and thank you for Caring enough to help try to save these kittens. hugs, bobbie
