The best thing to do in order to have your dog comfortable with the stairs is to begin doing some basic training with him that is fun and positive. Trying starting him out on some smaller steps (like the stairs going in or out of your house if t's just a couple of steps). Each time is goes up or down one of the steps; give him a treat and then gradually increase the number of steps he must master before he gets a treat. In the meantime, if a tornado siren goes off and you must head to the basement immediately; you may have to carry him downstairs or asking someone else in your house to carry him if he's too heavy.

My dog for some reason does not go up or down stairs in the house, only outside. So if we have a tornado and we have to go to the basement but he won't come, what do I do??

Jennifer & Elaine:

For Christmas last year, my son gave me this terrific wheeled pet carrier. It is mesh on 3 sides, has 2 zippered pockets, can be carried as a back-pack or it has an adjustable handle which in full pulled up position is like a wheeled book bag.I put one of my several pets favorite pillows in it (familiar favorite 'smells) and left it the living room where it was conspicuous to all. At first I tossed in several of multiple kitties favorite toys & it was mostly a toy box and as toys slowly ended up in their usual places of play and left there..they began using it as another napping spot. It is only $14.95 and it is a favorite place to play, nap and enter it voluntarily and easily if going some where. I totally love it..as do all of them (11) I have included a link. I am not associated with this company but have bought several things from them over 5 years and all have been surprisingly good quality at equally reasonable prices. Most of mine will deal with our regular carriers but they actually seek this one out and appear to find it comfortable for just laying around..hope you find interesting re: disaster
supply item. Linda W

I totally agree- my new kitten is still getting used to the place to I'm still afraid that she will run and hide and I won't be able to find her. I would never leave her but it just worries me.

I just want this site back. I just want this site to return to normal.. to return to discussions about animals. I want anyone who was banned from here to stay away and respect those of us that weren't banned. Why is this such a hard concept? And no…
