My mom and I are the DCO for our town, and a couple of years ago we were at a house with a GSD/Husky mix. I knew the dog from an earlier visit, but this time the dog was off of his chain. We were talking to his owners and all of the sudden Max (the dog) started running around circleing all of us, and then came up behind me and bit me on the back of the leg. Im a pretty good reader of dog body language, but i can not figure out why he started circleing us first. If anyone knows why he might have done this please tell me your thoughts.

I am sorry you were bitten. The first thing is Max chained up. I think he bit you because he was insecure. He is used to being chained up suddenly is world expands. Circling you is a classic way of herding you typical shepard behavior if you were not standing close enough to the group according to what Max believed was right He nipped bit you to make you go the right way. In fact Max is not at fault nor are you his owners are to blame you never keep a dog chained up twenty four seven and then expect him to behave when turned of the chain for a few minutes in the presens of strangers or infrequent visitors. I hope this gives you a reason why he bit you. Not that it is right for him to do that but he was not to blame. Sincerly Lisbeth and the lads in Denmark.

Thank you for all your information! That explains some of it. Max is not chaned up all of the time, in fact the reason my mom and i were there is because his owners were letting him off of his chain and breaking the leash law. He was going to the bathroom in peoples yards and they called and complained. Thank you again for your help.

Hello Kendra. The sad fact is that some people shoulden´t have a dog in the first place it is heartbreaking to think of the poor dog outside and the family warm and snug inside heartbreaking in the sense that a dog is suposed to be a family member how can it be a family member if it is kept outside at all times. No wonder he is/was roaming the neighborhood. Dogs are high maintenance and higly social animals. He was likely out looking for a new pack since his own pack wasen´t responding in the right way. Cudos to you and your mum for trying to make a diffrence for Max. If only more people had the courage to do that this world would be a better place for us all. Lisbeth and the lads in Denmark.Ps You are welcome.

Maybe. I myself checked out the website and they seem to be a great place, but the numerous amount of dogs in such a small seeming area does bring me to wonder. That's what I was thinking. I would much prefer to see someone coming on to the discuss…

More like New Years Resolutions to break for me, but I plan to spend more time out in the "real" word instead of online, and to extend my knowledge of horses/animal health. I guess it wouldn't hurt to pull my grades up a bit, either.
