Comment by Marta on January 27, 2009 at 1:43am - I volunteer at a small, rural shelter. Not all of the volunteers have any medical or formal education but are the "always wrong never in doubt" persuasion. Lately I have noticed a strong noxious odor when we are cleaning. We have been using a 1:10 chlorine bleach solution since we opened but as of late one of the board members decided to add a generic lysol or pine-sol to the mix. I am adament about sanitation but I am positive that even just mixing the two chemicals on the unwashed mopheads can cause irritaion. The board member feels just as strongly that I am wrong about this but coincidentally several of the puppies have developed vomiting, diarrhea and URI's. I believe even if the chemicals are not poured into the same bucket that a reaction can occur from a mop used for pine-sol when immersed in bleach. Am I correct?
