I would like to know everyone's opinion on the use of shock collars. I have not seen anything on this subject posted. This includes bark collars (which I am strictly against), training collars and underground fence collars.
Not your fault Renate. They are cruel electric collars that will jolt the dog when the lazy good for nothing owner thiks the dog is doing something wrong. It is control through fear Like both Barbara and Belles I don´t think a profesional trainer would ever resort to such wanton cruelty having dogs and training them is a life time commitment Positive reenforcement is the most effective way of training a dog/dogs. This is something that creates a very strong bond between dog and owner a relationship based on love and respect not fear and pain wich is what using antibark collars as well as electric ones does. Our dogs should not fear us their lives should be based on trust and love. Besides I think these collars are banned in Germany as well as holland the UK Ireland and Denmark. Sincerly Lisbeth and the lads. I agree Barbara I ment that they misuse their socalled madeup status as "trainers" a down right lie but as a sales gimmick it will work because of some peoples ignorance.
Thank you Barbara. You are a good friend and To have someone with a clear understanding of what you are actually trying to say is priceless. Thank you for being there. I hope your trio is doing well. knowing how they live with you I am inclined to think they live great lives and oh so loved what more could you or I want out of life execpt an end to all cruelty to animals a ban on the racing industry and cruel/archaic devices to torture dogs. Most sincerly Lisbeth and the lads.
Lisbeth, you know that you and I have very similar views in this and most other areas and aren't afraid to say so. I really respect that.
My boys are good. They are sprawled all over my couches right now; Loki is on his back with his feet up in the air like he's in rigor mortis. They have it pretty darn easy as I'm sure your whippet/greyhound brood does.
You had better believe it. They too are having a good snooze after having been out as usual for their morning run then breakfast long snooze then out again for a stroll and back home for a long snooze. Oh I am sure they have a very hard life. We do share a lot more than people realise people with sighthounds have a way of agreeing about most subjects and getting along I wonder if we are learning this from our royal hounds? I respect you too and your views and experiences are spot on. You have a great night with your whippets give them a big hug and soft cuddel from their cousin Mike and their bigger cousins Connor Tristan and Darcy. Me too. Take care.
I absolutley hate shock collars they may not be harmful i dont know but to me i think they are! the animal can pass aand get a really harmful shock! now thats not gonna make ur pet live longer!
Lets see, would you rather be on a tangling 10 foot leash for the rest of your life, or be restriced within tall fences, OR would you like to walk around freely and only be shocked when you break the rules and leave the yard? I would take the third option. Its quite stupid to think that shock collars are not neccicary, I breed belgian sheepdogs, and I am put to the fact that I either have to put my dog down, or shock him when he goes to bite a man. What would you rather do when it comes to your dogs lives?
I would rather have my dog trained properly then any of the options your suggested. I use the gentle, loving, firm training. My dogs have never ran off, never been free of the property, always use a leash, and will always stay in the yard. Freedom does not have to come in a painful shock, that is what a walk is for, freedom.
I had to put my dog(best friend) down barely a month and a have ago. Is it normal for me to still cry all night? I've been looking for a new dog even though I won't be able to get one for quite some time. Is what I'm feeling normal?
Dayna,
I know exactly how you feel. I had to put down my 7 year old corgi this November. This is the first year I wasn't able to give him his Christmas treat. Sometimes I think I see him sitting by our back door. I'll be praying for you. God bless.
