I was thinking of making dog treats for my pooch and for my friends pooch for christmas but i was wondering if garlic powder is safe or other small amounts like clove dangerous to the dog? The amount is 1 tablespoon. Can anyone help me?

Never use garlic unless U want 2 kill your dog or cat. I don't care what the recipes say. Please take DR Sheys advice as he is a Vet. There is much info on the DVM re-search of this OUTDATED poison thought to be good for dogs. It is a Myth. Highly Toxic. Please click on Barbara's link. The USDA only approves one food for cats and dogs, that is Halo pets but I make the recipe as the cans have soy but NO garlic ever. The people with all recipes who use garlic need to B informed. For the Love of your pet re-search all medical proven toxic foods for pets. The USDA nor FDA regulates what U feed your pet. This goes for vitamin supplements as well such as garlic pills for dogs. So Sad. bobbie

I am not a voice of authority. I am a concerned pet owner, and seen this toxicity only because of experience. I am not smarter, or pretend to no more than any other dog owner on here. I am concerned for each one of these pet owners on here that ask advice., and for the safety of their animals. I am a voice for them, and each one of them is 100% loved, no matter what kind of breed, whether it is the most loving dog or the most snappy (as Cassy puts it).
I only go by what I have seen, experienced, and what foods I continue to test. If you want to give your dog garlic, onions, chocolate etc. That is your choice. I am just warning you, and giving advice that I find to be correct, for the safety of your animals.
For all the owners that have lost your dogs, I am sorry that I couldn't save them and do more for them. I grieve because your grieve.

There is alot of conflicting information about garlic for dogs. I'd play it safe. Substitute something else in its place.. like shredded carrots. Yummy!

No onions or garlic of any kind ever. These are good for you and me but toxic for dogs. As a vet tech I see on a regular basis dogs coming in anemic from these spices. Hell for the safe side leave most spices out altogether. You want a good treat for your dog? Get some real beef tips and fry it up in some coconut oil. Real meat is a treat for any dog and not toxic. Some say it is safe due to they feed it to their dog but I see a lot of senior with problems from a steady diet of this. Consult your vet and see what he says about it. He knows your dog better than I or you do.

I agree, Dr. Shey, Belles. Bobby, We have done our re-search. I bake a chicken once a week and cut it up for treats, training rewards etc Nothing fried , no spices of course no skin or bones. . They will do things U can't imagine when U want them 2 do something that is strange, like putting on a muzzle. just put muzzle on ground with chicken next to it, and dog relates muzzle with good things. After a few times, Wallah, muzzle goes on, dog is happy. Keep repeating process everytime U use muzzle for about a week. Then treats R no longer needed. Never leave a muzzle on a dog more than 20 minutes max at any given time. This is only 1 example. It can be done when putting booties on for cold weather too, as well as bringing timid dogs out of their shell , like if they R afraid of an object. It works. Try it . Have fun. Hope this helps, bobbie

Okay i'll get rid of any garlic or onion type of product from the recipe. If anyone wants to know any of the recipes i'll be happy to post them. I'll be trying a few this week when i'm off. :) i'll let you know how he likes them.

The market is flooded with products that make bold claims and then never deliver. Many of these products are perfectly marketed so that people buy them and never return them once they do not work. Paraslim Force
