Memory Foam or Eggcrate foam dog bed?????

Hi,

I'm in the market to purchase a nice dog bed for my 6-year old dobbie/sheppard/pit mix. She is about 60 pounds and exercises a lot. I'd like to (and I am willing to) invest in an orthopedic bed for her. I see that there are orthopedic beds that are eggcrate foam material and there are also memory foam beds (a higher cost) available. Both look thick and plush, but if I'm spending that kind of money I'd like to get her the best bed possible. Can anyone advise from personal experience whether the eggcrate foam beds or the memory foam beds are a better choice?

Does she like beds for the most part? If so, I'd get her the memory foam. Sometimes regular foam can cause them to get hot. You can consider an orthopedic gel bed.. they stay a bit cooler. They even have beds that are slightly raised off the floor, so air flows from underneath as well. I've bought many beds for mine over the years.. they seem to like the memory foam type. I have three GSD's.

Aki uses her bed to lay in for about 20 minutes, and then it's on the tile floor. Buying her an expensive bed would really be a waste. For the others who love their beds, get the best you can afford. Here is something I found on memory foam... which I had no clue about!!

Now Lets Talk About Memory Foam
Memory foam is graded by density. All foam is defined by a series of numbers that reflect the weight and compression ratios of a square foot of foam. Most common in the industry for testing purposes, is a piece of foam 4" X 12" X 12 feet square. Precision equipment is used in determining these ratios.

Thanks for all of the great info. I will be shopping for a memory foam bed. The buddysbed link was wonderful. And eventhough I want to get my doggie a great bed, these are just simply out of my price range atm. O, well, she will have to start off with a "starter" memory foam bed-lol. Which is much better than the $20 piece of junk she is sleeping on now. She loves, loves, loves her beds so even a modest upgrade will make her feel like the princess that she is.

If she's already used to a bed, then look for bargains like at Overstock.com or other.. just do a search in google. I found this one at Overstock.. for $58.00! It's a large size too.. can't beat that price. I think they ship for like $6.00 too!

If she's never had a bed before, get her one from PetCo and see if she likes them.. I have three dogs - one doesn't, two love their beds. So it's just a matter of individual dog personality.

Yes!! After much internet research, found the overstock one too! I think we will spring for the large one so she has plenty of room... still a good price @ $90 and says shipping is $1. Customer reviews are very good on the bed.... some say their 160+ pound dogs are loving it. Mine is only 60 lbs, so it should work well for her. Only complaint is that they said it was on the thin side (2-1/2"thick). O, well better than the lumpy piece of crap she is sleeping on now :)

I have a thinner one.. you'll be surprised how comfy they are. Good job finding the shopping bargains. I like buying from them.. they are so reasonable on shipping. We ordered a chair once from them.. cost $5.00 to ship it. I couldn't believe it.

Yes, that does look like a nice bed,,, especially the description that says the cover resists pet hair! But the $200 price tag is too rich for my blood- lol.
