Just want to send out a little message about Max. Got internet back yesterday, and Max got up and moved for the first time since 10-19-09. As I read the other messages I feel bad that my Max has made such great strives in his recovery, and yet others out there are still struggling. I am however overwhelmed with gladness that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I guess there are many different stages of injury that can afflict our beloved dogs. Max luckly never lost his bowel or bladder control and had aways had the deep pain thing. I am much more knowledgable and tend to share my experience with everyone I see because it just floored me and I never thought something like this could just happen out of nowhere. No warnings, nothing. But I want to thank you for the replies and the words of incouragement. All I have to say is miracles still happen everyday. I am thankful that one came my way...
Peace

Dr. Khouri seems to answer the first emails but then you get nothing :(
My dog had an FCE on Sept 11, 09 and I first inquired with Dr. Khouri about 1-2 weeks later. My dog is still down, no bladder and no bowel control and of course both hind legs drag. She has started hydrotherapy and the water treadmill with assistance and we have been getting some deep pain response (finally) and with a pinch she can wag her tail. Small steps but it would be nice to start CP7 sooner rather than later if it works as well as claimed.
Let’s keep each other updated on the CP7 saga

Thank you very much for the info, Regina. I very much appreciate it. I am going to send Dr Khouri an email and see if CP7 would work with a dog that has been Post FCE for five months.

Hi Bill I just e-mail Dr Khouri at chkouri@bellsouth.net and got a respond back saying it might be to late for my dog because he is in his 9 month but he said it is free just shipping charges. He said there is no known side effects. I got a responds back fast but ask him another question and did receive it back yet I will let you know. But my dog had the same FCE to the T. He is doing really good but will never be the same which is ok as long as he is happy and no pain. He now walks and runs but he has a peg left front leg. They do get a little better every month you will see a improvement.

We would be very interested in learning more about CP7. Our puppy has not yet recoverd use of his front left leg after an FCE five months ago. Any help or directly you can supply would be very much appreciated!!!

Thank you Bonnie for the info and the support, I am sure I will need it as time goes on. Of course my internet has gone down as well.( we had a power surge or something) So I am waiting for the company to fix this as well so I will be able to surf and find more info and support. Right now I am making trip to the library to check on mail and try to get some more info. I guess when it rains it pours... I need a hugh umbrella :) ... Again thank you and I will be sure to call on some support and let you know of our progress...

Hi Brenda, FCE is awful for both dogs and their humans. I wanted to share some of my experience with you and hope it makes you feel a little comfort. My Josie was diagnosed with FCE in July. She was completely parlyzed on the right side. She was diagnosed by the neurologist but after the initial diagnosois the neurologist just checked her they really didn't take an active role in caring for her. So if the diagnosis has been made don't worry if you can't swing the neurologist. We did take her for PT but you can do PT yourself (working her limbs several times a day) .We ordered wheels but by the time they came she didn't need them anymore because she could get around a bit (not great but ok at first). So if it were up to me I would say to wait a week or so and see how Max progresses. I have a company that make wheels out of PVC so they are less expensive. I could get that for you if you need it. When Josie was first affected we took her out with a sling. We ordered it (used it about a week and that was it) You could make a sling out of a blanket or sheet to use temporarily. I know things look bad right now but with lots of love and support it is possible to get your Max functioning again (maybe not 100% but at least functioning). You can find lots of support on line from those of us who have been there. Let us know if we can help.

HI, My name is Brenda. I have a foxhound named Max, his is 5 1/2 years old. He was hit with this tragidy on 10-19-09. I unfortunally don't have the money to seek the proper treatment for him and I am doing what I can to get him some wheels. Anything anyone might be able to suggest that I can do to help him to possiblably get better or aid in his mobility.. I am all ears. He is a wonderful addition to our family and I would hate to have to think of putting him down only because I can afford to help them be all he can be after this affliction. I could not afford to take him to the doggie nerologist, but I know that this is what happened to him. I took him to the Er vet and that bill was all I could swing at the moment. I love my dog and my kids are heart broken and we all are shocked that something like this could happen out of know where. He was just fine, and then he ran around the corner of the house and whamo.... you have a broken dog. I am lucky that he has control of this bodily function if someone can get him outside to do his own business. He weighs 65 pound and is quite a load to move. So again, any help or suggestions... we would be most graditul. my email address is greatdanespike@aol.com. put Max in the subject so I don't miss such an inportant mailing... Thanks in advance...

Hi Jennifer, I don't know where in the NY area you live but I live on Long Island and have some great referrals. I would be happy to pass them along if that is good for you.

Hi Cheryl- First try not to panic because you are doing all that you can. I agree with Caitlin take Cody out as much as you can. We took Josie out using her gizmo and although she didn't love using it we could see that she was more relaxed and happier to be able to do her buisness without us hovering and holding her. Then as soon as she could stand on her own we would just stand her on the grass so she could go.
