Hi i am a german shepherd breeder from years ago and I love the breed. I use to have a black and tan named Nikki and a white one name T-Rex....

I don't have a "Germie Puffy" of my own, but I have several of them as friends. My Harley is 1/3 German Shepherd. they are such beautiful dogs.

Sounds like U have control. They do understand words and tone of voice. Boys must B Alpha also so dogs don't try to protect U from what they consider bad behaviour in childs attitude. Hugs, bobbie

Sometimes it's almost eerie when the older boy snorts derisively at something I tell him to do. i mean the timing is so on that he has to know exactly what I'm saying.
The younger boy has always been a little copy-cat. He picks up on things I do so quickly I have to be a bit careful anymore.
I use the choke chain as well. It makes giving little corrections so very easy and there is no chance that if a problem arose that they could wiggle out of it.
And they definitely get lots of attention and play/workout time. There is no doubt in my mind that is the reason they have turned out so well.
And as for discipline - all I have to do is change the tone of my voice and they know I mean business.

I knew GSDs had a strong bite but I didn't know the actual #. Thankfully the boys don't have aggression issues and I established Alpha leader from the get-go - even though I didn't realize that was what I had done at the time. :)

Although lots don't approve, This is for safety as well as the dog becoming familiar with you and trusting U 4 kindness and respect. Remember a GSD has 450 lbs. on a bite that can snap an arm in two etc. I muzzle. Weighing in at 100 lbs myself, I also use choke chain.this does in no way hurt dog unless your a brute, A short tug is all that's needed. Only for the introduction and trust period. Treats, fresh chicken always for praise and total ignoring 4 misconduct. They love to work, Also a back pack with a little weight as we advance helps them feel useful and productive . They need a pupose as a herding dog, they are used to keep flocks in line and kill predetors who will hurt flocks. This is an inbred trait in herding breeds. Never make eye contact with a new one. Must alsways B calm yet assertive as they feel your vibes, Never hit, yell etc. I can go on and on but it is a training that works in stages, U establish yourself as pack leader immediately. This is only a short comment to get started but much work goes into the training process. There intellegence level is so high that they catch on almost immediately. Some have been known to understand a vocabulary of over 400 words and commands. Hope this helps some. Hugs, bobbie

Hi Bobbie,
What is your training method as far as the aggression behavior goes? I must admit to being a "Dog Whisperer" fan although much of what he says and does is just plain old common sense that I learned from Grandpa on the horse and cattle ranch as I was growing up.(although I do tend to be a good deal more affectionate than Cesar and Grandpa) Sometimes though the obvious is easier to see from afar.

Trained for k9 units and ones for private clients with dog aggesion behaviour. Owned several. My favorite breed along with long hair rough collies. Lassie type. German Shepherd dogs R the most intellegent I have ever known and loved. bobbie
