Summer time is around the corner again and you need to pay close attention to your four legged family members because the extreme Arizona heat can be dangerous or even FATAL. Every year in Arizona dogs are killed by the heat so here are some tips to help keep your canine companions safe and comfortable.

1. Keep your dog indoors if possible during the hottest part of the day if possible.

2. If they are going to be outside be sure they have plenty of shade and plenty of water.

3. Be sure to keep the water bowl in a shady place to keep the water temperature lower. (Dogs won’t drink hot water)

4. Concrete can get very hot and can burn your dogs’ pads. Feel the ground with your hand to check the heat level if it is too hot for you it is too hot for them.

5. Try to restrict outdoor activities to the morning or evening.

6. Remember even a few minutes in the car this time of year can KILL pets. ( It’s also illegal)

7. Dehydration can be checked for by placing a finger on the gums it should return to normal color in 2-3 seconds.

Hi everyone, I just took in a Great Dane a few weeks ago. She is 4yrs old and is a Blue Merle. When I got her she weighed about 80 lbs, they were feeding her plentiful dog food and had been adding table scraps to it, so therefore she didn't want to eat anything unless there was table scraps added to her food. We do not feed table scraps as a general rule, so therefore, I tried to take this out of her diet, and so she has lost some weight because of the adjustments. I was wondering if anyone could or would give me some suggestions on how I might go about getting her to add back the weight she lost and how to get her up to the 120 lbs that she should have weighed to begin with. Thanks ~Angie
