I just saw the latest ASPCA ad and it almost makes me cry to see those poor dears waiting for a loving home... I've learned to change the channel when they come on, I can't watch the ads. I'm afraid the ads may do their job too well... encourage people to come to a shelter to get an animal to take care of, with really good intentions. BUT pets need love and attention, for years and years not just sporadically when we think of it. My neighbor has two dogs and they whine and whimper for attention for hours each day... it breaks my heart. I don't want to see more situations like this. Encouraging people to adopt a pet is good but only if they will commit to the animal... not just tie it up in the side yard and ignore it.

It's an incredibly POWERFUL commercial and I applaud the ASPCA for creating it! There is so much cruelty and neglect in the world, and as long as humans continue to treat animals heartlessly and mindlessly, the shelters will remain filled with them. One-eyed, three-legged, they all deserve a chance at adoption. Bravo, ASPCA! Adopt, folks, adopt!!!

Hi Ginnee...There are so many things that pull at my heart. But I do also think that if we all stick together, then we can make a difference in the lives of wonderful animals. You are so right...pets need love for ever and ever, and that is what we will get in return from them. Pets are a life time commitment. But once we give them our life, they will be with us forever. An animal, a pet, is probably the only being who will show us unconditional love. As you said so well, they need us too. Thank you for your love for animals...we will all make a difference. People need to learn to care about their pets. I know how hard it is to let one go to a better place, but the joy of having them to begin with is worth the tears.

hi ginnee! i agree with you i think if you own a animal that you should be a responisible pet owner. I also don't like to see situations where the animals is whinning and whimpering for attention from there owner. i think its an outrage that some pet owners can do this. well. i want to wish you luck with this advice and hope you get the help you need.

When the shelters are filled to the brim with animals something needs to be done in order to avoid putting any of them to sleep hence the powerful messages. It is about giving it your all for those in your care. We can ask ourselves this simpel question why are so manny no kill shelters forced to close down? maybe there is nothing more they can do because they lack fonds and opertunity to adopt out. I agree we should be careful in our assessment of potential adopters but times are tough soo manny animals are handed in by owners who can no longer afford to keep them. They may be living in the streets as opposed to before and thus forced to part with fido or kitty. Therefore the powerful ASPCA comercials will make as much as a diffrence for the animals in their care as possibel. I am all for adopting out to the right people but the question is can they afford to keep a dog or cat for the rest of its natural lifespan?
