over-breeding of horses in the equine industry is the primary reason so many good, sound, lovable horses go to slaughter. Adopt, dont breed, is the slogan for dogs and cats, and should be the slogan for horses, too. thanks for posting this reminder.

hello everybody i hope you all dont think that this is rough to say but in my opion i think that we should stop breeding too many foal as here in britian people seem to breed there mares as this ression is going on and tryiong to make a profit from an animal im strongly against breeding for muny as there are too many abandond/negleting horses/ponies as the travellers always breed from their horses and some are in such states as grazing aswell as dangerous paddocks/fields aswell as chained to land and the mares cant follow foals iv seen a mare go in2 a frenzy wen her foal wonder to a fellow chained up horse(a stallion).
i interviend and went to tell the traveller the situation and she was un teathered.
at the enda the day not all mares have the ryt confromation aswell as healhy history as compaion mares or unriderble mares are used when they shouldnt be i agree rare breeds aswell as endangered should keep on top of breeding but more advise to concidering to breed from owners to be advised hope nobody see's this as over reacting?

ello iv taken on a 3-4yo cob gelding whom has come from a field which it had bien living in a full year left to be a horse.
iv loaned from my friend this horse as the owner lives n da states at bit he has bien with the owner whom lives n da states since 7mnths so he has one owner.
the fact that i have to reback as he has bien off for a year certainally dont act like it as he as accepted me as the carer aswell as his provider that we ave bonded that he will allo me to saddle/bridle groom vunrable areas ie;legs underbelly aswell as lying over back iv not yet sat on fully.
he as a bad habbit to rear wen he wishes to ignore wot is bien asked of him aswell as will stick heels in wen he is bought in, as he dont wanna leave compaions the fact aswell that he will also try and escape box he stabled in wen he needs to be stabled from time to time to get a routine aswell as manners can anybody advise on wot stage to approuhe as he ant myn and want him happy/leaving out 24/7 is not a option as field management at livery yard.x

Vet fee to put it down about $150-250 depending, removal $150 plus $200 mileage for a 100 mile round trip in this area. $500-$600 would feed a horse a lot of food. Probably not a option for someone who can't afford to feed a horse. A bit ago I read in Calf. a group was doing free euthanizing of a few horses but you still had to get it to them. Any other ideas?
Linda Renoe Comment by Linda Renoe on April 16, 2009 at 5:11pm
if no one will take it including a rescue group I would have it put down that way it wouldn't starve to death.
Joan Spinner Comment by Joan Spinner on April 14, 2009 at 5:44pm
I want to know the thoughts of this group. What can you do if you have a horse that is unsellable, that no rescue group will take, and you can't afford to feed or care for? I hear of the midnight drop-offs in other people's fields, turning them loose on public land, letting them starve until they are bad enough that the local authorities will take them. What do you think you'd do? What choices do you see in that situation?

'IDAHO' was the name of DEBBI METCALF'S MARE. DEBI formed Stolen Horse, International, determined to find her stolen mare 'Idaho'. She found her, 3 years later, after continual networking on the internet, putting up bulletins about her stolen horse 'IDAHO' until Idaho was found....

A stolen horse could be a long distance in a short time period. Please pass this to your associations, list groups, council members, friends, stalbes and tack shops, feed stores, veterinaries, farriers, horse dealers, feedlots and horse auctions and ask them to do the same. You can also help out by posting a lost and found ad in places like Craigslist, Livedeal.com and other free ad services.

Try everybody...horses are for sale everywhere between MT and WA because feed prices were so rediculous and the economy it's hard to keep horses.

Belles I also free feed, only had an issue with one cat, whom we nicked Hoover, he would inhale any food possible then present it back. I agree cats are individuals as are dogs, some do fine with free feeding others do better with timed feedings.
