I was curious as to why ferrets seem to be left out when it comes to big rescues and even calendars? There are many ferret owners/lovers out there and I am curious as to when ferrets will get their day. They are very intelligent animals, they seem to be both cat like and dog like, using the kitty pan and can walk on a harness and leash and even come to their names.

I don't get it either, especially since ferrets are becoming such popular pets. I know alot of people were I live that are interested in ferrets, are interested in ferrets, or have them. I think the best thing that can be done is to contact your local ferret rescue and ask them about setting up an annual ferret gathering or something.

The local ferret shelters do hold shows a few times a year as well as education days at least once a month in the local Petco and Petsmart stores. It just bothers me that there is even a bunny in the calendars but no ferret. Yes, there are MANY ferret calendars now out every year and even was a Ferret magazine which is now going internet. The bigger shows out in Ohio, MD, etc do have actual judges and judging rings for ferrets as well as trophies and ribbons. There is even a yearly sympossium where ferret people go for 2-3 days and learn even more about ferrets including new treatments for their main illnesses.

Even if you look at the above photo for ASPCA, you will not see a ferret but you will see a bunny and a horse! :-(

In NYC it is illegal to sell or posess ferrets. I feel that they make great companions and should be off of the illegal list.

What is the reasoning behind ferrets being illegal in some cities? They are a domesticated animal and have been for many many years.

I just love ferrets. They are so sweet and so much fun. What happends to the ferrets in nyc if you pick up one? Do you send them to an upstate shelter? do you euthanize tthme since they are illegal in NYC. I live about an hour north of NYC and they are legal here. What is the problem in NYC (and calif. and hawaii)? Do you see any change in the ferret law soon?

I do not understand this either! It does not make sense as they are a domesticated animal just as cats and dogs are, though some vets consider them "exotic" but they are not.

Come on in and talk about anything your heart desires as long as you respect others. You do not have to talk about animals. Post a joke, a story you read, let out your frustrations etc. Be Nice!
