Weak punishment for animal abusers
Why is it that people who abuse and kill animals, only have like a maximum of 4 years in prison, and that's for only really bad cases when they kill them by beating them to death? Why do almost all animal abusers never see a jail cell? I think when you kill an animal, it should be the same as if you killed a person, and if you neglect, the same punishment as if you neglegted a child, and if you hit an animal, it should be assault. Animals can't fight back, and there should be harder laws protecting them, then maybe people would start thinking twice before they hit an animal. What is your take on all that?

I agree with you, I would love to see criminals spend more time in jail. People never think they will even be arrested for crimes against animal. They are shocked that they do get arrested. We live in a strange world when child rapist get out of jail in a few months time.

Until the laws are changed, these people will keep receiving rediculous sentences. The ASPCA periodically sends out emails asking us to contact our Reps. and Senators demanding harsher punishment, etc. Please take time to respond to those requests. You never know, things may get changed. Also, there is an organization that I support........Animal Legal Defense Fund that does wonderful work. I believe they have assisted ASPCA in several high profile absue cases. Check them out at www.aldf.org and if possible give them your support.

this situation is hoooorrrible, im young, but soon i will be old enough to take legal action and change these riddiculous laws. people ARE equal to animals, there is no reason we should be allowed to hurt and bully others less powerful than us. what kind of lesson are we teaching society and all the people if we consider ourselves almost god-like, enough to take the lives of others who cant defend themselves. >:O
