A couple houses down form my boyfriend is one of the sweetest dogs ever. She is treated horrible and I don't believe the owners really care. She looks to be a west highland terrier and about 2-3 years old, not spayed. She is always running loose and is always in danger from people not stopping at stop signs and buses speeding down the road. When she gets loose she comes right to our house. We usually let her in, give her a much needed bath and grooming, feed her, and what ever else she needs. The local animal control has done nothing to help her. Whenever she's here we usually have her for days before they look for her. I know she isn't my dog but i can't stand to watch her have to live like that. The last time was a few days before christmas...her hair was patchy, she was covered in feces, and her nails have curled under. We made her a vet appointment and that was it. They weren't getting her back this time but as we took her outside to get in the car they saw her so we had no choice. What can be done for this helpless little girl if the local animal control won't do anything?

There is not much you can do, it sounds to me like you had the right idea.

thats horrible. Its so hard to see something like that and not have anything done about it.

I'm still trying to help her. The local vet told me to just bring her in right away so that if they do come looking for her I won't have to lie about having her.

Please tell these people that if they won't allow you to keep the dog, you will file cruelty charges against them. Sometimes this is enough to scare them into allowing you to keep the dog. If not, file charges. But first, find out where the dog will be taken so you can apply for "custody." Good luck!

well you could make another appointment for the vet and when the dog comes around put her in a room that you sometimes use and when the owner comes into your house to look for the dog, tell them you don't have her and after they leave take the dog to a family members house and keep her there until the vets appointment,or take pictures of her condition and report the owner to the cops and show them the pictures
