Hello,
I'm forwarding this plea for help I received for a little pitbull puppy named Dolly. She has two broken legs that have grown back wrong due to neglect and uncaring. Both legs need to be surgically repaired. Dolly, at her young age, already suffers from arthritis as bone sits on top of bone and causes her terrible pain. Please read Dollys story and if you can help with donations Lillian, her rescuer, would very much appreciated. Lillian lives on social security and doesn't have the money to pay for what this little girl needs. Eventually she wants Dolly to be adopted into a good home but for that to happen Dolly needs to get her legs repaired. If you can help with donations for Dolly please read on. And please crosspost. Thank you!
Here is Dr. Talburt's diagnosis and recommendation. Dolly had X-rays done on her front leg. It can be fixed but that will have to go to a specialist. Dr. Talburt says it would be best to operate on her hip first so it can heal and she will be able to walk before doing her front leg. Her hip is what is causing her so much pain because the ball that goes into the socket of the hip joint is broken and out of place. Her pelvis was broken also but seems to have mended as it is and is not causing her any problems. He said she has arthritis and using her hip causes her great pain because it is bone on bone. To fix the hip he is looking at around $700.
To do her front leg, which can be saved, she will probably need to see a specialist and he is estimating it is going to run anywhere between $3,000 to $5,000 to fix her front leg so she will have a working leg again. There will have to be 2 different operations and Dr. Talburt will not try to do the front leg because of the precise measurements that will need to be done on it that only a specialist can do. They will have to cut out overgrown bone matter and pull the leg back to where it is supposed to be and place a plate in place to hold it.
She is also needing to be spayed but he will not even consider any of this until she is totally out of season, she is just about finished with her first heat that showed up on us.
You may contact Dr. Talburt to confirm this. The bill for today was paid in full today and it was a whooping $242.00 for her general vetting (Skin scraping negative, antibiotics, cortisone, and Ivomec, and xrays). It is a cash on hand basis at the vets office.
