I would like to volunteer as a gateway into the animal world. I would like to be involved as a profession but everything I seem to find falls into the "animal caretaker" category, pays like $8 an hour and has limited daytime hours like 8-3p. Any advice on what other areas I could get into after volunteering that would allow me hands on contact with the animals but also pay enough to live on in nyc, aside from being a vet?
