I saved a great pyrenees from the pound. He won't come inside .He seems to like the cold weather as he has a really nice fur coat.i built him a house under the deck with bales of straw. Is it enough to protect him.its been really cold(to me that is)Do I need a heat light or anything?
Also what do I do in the summer.Really hot weather would melt him.do people shave them or what?

Great pyrenees are definately built for snow! They're double coats do keep them nice and warm, but don't forget that they need grooming and coat maintainence. The ground can be very cold, so sometimes elevated flooring in a dog house can warm things up. Straw is perfect. No heat lamps! I'd work on the behavior aspect, maybe you can get the big guy in before it gets hot... speak to your vet or shelter about behavior/training resources. It is okay to shave long haired dogs in the summer - not too short because the fur protects skin from sun!

Thanks.I will get his hair trimmed this summer not shaved,he is so beautiful.I want to treat him right. How much food should he be getting a day? He was skin and bones when I got him.He is now about up to 100 up from 75lbsI am feeding him one can of dog food and 4 to 6 cups of dry every day.does that sound right or do I need to change it someway?
