i recently turned in 2 small pit bull dogs, tied with a huge chain in a yard. they had just a dirty creek to drink out of and no food. they had to stand on mud, one of the dogs had a half barrel to stay in and the other had a crate..the animal shelter said they would send someone out to check on the dogs, but they didnt..i went to the dogs and fed them and made sure they had clear water..i would have cut them loose but they were close to a road. i didnt want them hit..i made sure they chain was loose on them too..also i forgot to tell you that no one lived there..they just came in once in a while to act like they were taking care of the dogs..they also put up a mirror where one of the dogs could see himself. one was tied in front of the house and the other in the back..they fed them gunpowder..the people finallly just moved off and took the dogs. but what mad me mad is the animal shelter wouldnt check on them..
The situation you describe would be a crime in practically every state. It is frustrating that local animal control often lacks the resources, manpower or will to respond in such cases. When you encounter such a lack of response it is important to move up the chain of command. If the individual officer is unresponsive, insist on talking to a supervisor or director. If animal control is within the police or health dept - work your way up that chain as well if necessary. As I have suggested to several other people today - it can also be helpful to describe the the situation and the unresponsiveness of officials to the media - who are often in a position to make them do the right thing.
i did call the police and other animal shelters..they just passed it on to another and another..the newspaper wont print my story cause i dont have proof of the dogs abuse. i told them to go look at the dogs..i hate the way animals are treated here..i worry so much about those dogs, cause i know they were gonna be in a fight..thanks for replying.
Next time tell the shelter that the dogs are running loose in the neighborhood, when they get there just tell them you coaxed them over to you and you put them on the chains until they got there to take them. A similar event happened in my neighborhood. There was a full grown pit chained in the back, she cried so pitfully, so I would go over and bring her treats, it was obvious she was used for fighting because she was very sweet to me, but when the young pit would come over for attention she would try to attack her. The young pit was so thin but such a sweety, I would check on them both a couple times a day. The owner thought he was doing nothing wrong and I tried to inform him, (in one ear, out the other). About 2 days later, the full grown pit somehow got off her chain and was running the neighborhood. Another neighbor called the Police and they came out with Animal Control. They confinscated both dogs.
the only thing about that story is the chain had 2 locks on them..both dogs had huge log chains that were so heavy..i wouldnt have been able to produce a key..both of the dogs did get loose and came to our house..he was such a sweet dog. never once got mad at the kids for petting him..he actually wanted to play
I just do not see why the ASPCA Bitches as " I have heard them called" Just don't just post on their own site and keep their the DRAMA there. We are going into a new year maybe things will change and people will grow up.
