Bereavement Counseling
Hi Dr. Lafarge,
I have been thinking of becoming a volunteer--something that involves offering support to people, but that also involves animals. What background or training is necessary to become a bereavement counselor? I'm thinking more along the lines of something similar to offering counseling over a phone.

There are several online training programs you can investiage. Also contact the Assocaition of Pet Loss and Bereavement (APLB) for information. I suggest you get experience on a Hotline for grief issues even if it just for humans like hospice . that will apply to work with pet loss. Welcome aboard. It is is a great field.
