As the best defense is a good offense, having taught a dog the leave it command and making sure the dog knows leave it is the best way I know to prevent dogs from eating or drinking toxins.
Having said that, it is good to know animal first aid until you can get to the vet or emergency veterinary clinic.
Having said that, could you provide a list besides antifreeze as to what are toxins for dogs

One of the rules of toxicology is that everything is poisonous but it is the dose that makes the poison. I would go to www.aspca.org/apcc (the Animal Poison Control Center's website) and look under the Posion Safe House link which has a large list of potential poisons.
