Hi Joanne! I've got a baby coming and 2 cats at home. I know people often get rid of animals when they have a baby, which we obviously don't agree with at the ASPCA. What would you say to those people to urge them against doing this?

How would you suggest building an animal/child bond from the very beginning? :) Thanks

Hi Elyse! CONGRATS on the new addition!!! I feel so sad when I hear that people got rid of their pets because of baby's arrival. There is no reason to do this! You can start preparing for baby's arrival long before you come home with your baby--playing a tape recording of baby sounds, letting your pet become familiar with the smell of the nursery, so many ways to ease the transition. Pets need lots of attention too, when you come home with a baby--give them special petting, and some alone time, so they know that they are still an important part of your life!
