Hi Joanne. DO you have any advice on how I can try to convince my son's preschool to not have hamsters or other in-classroom pets?

Hi Valerie. Pets in the classroom can provide valuable lessons, if they are kept for the right reasons (their presence can further learning),and all their needs are being met. There's nothing sadder than the end of the school year, when no one wants to take home the class pet. There are alternatives you can suggest to your son's school-visit ASPCAEducation.org Click on "resources" and if you scroll toward the bottom of the list, you will see some terrific articles about pets in the classroom, alternatives and other idea.
