In Honor of Wren

This page is dedicated and made in honor of my little girl, Wren, a gorgeous Straight-Breed Chihuahua who almost lost her life do to the abuse and neglect she went through in a puppy mill. For the first year and a half of her life Wren knew nothing but pain and neglect. She was nearly starved to death; bred twice, three months apart, before she was a year an a half old; and had a high positive case of heart worm the last time she gave birth. Wren went through hell before she was rescued, but she was one of the lucky ones. Most of the time puppy mill “breeders” (they do not deserve that honorable title, but I cannot think of anything else to call them) just kill dogs when it is no longer profitable to keep them. Wrennie was surrendered, and given a second chance -- the only nice thing her previous "owners" did for her.

Wren does not have a voice, the bark was beaten out of her, so I will be her voice. Please, know where your dogs are coming from! Please, for dogs like Wren and her adopted sister Cricket, please!, choose to adopt! I understand the lure of pure breeds, and do not get me wrong, I have great respect for honorable, honest breeders, who take care of and respect the dogs they love; but please, there are plenty of pure breeds in shelters and foster organizations everywhere! Wren is a pure breed, Deer-Head, Straight Breed Chihuahua. Her sister Cricket is a pure breed, Apple- Head, Modified Straight Breed Chihuahua. Both of my wonderful friends and daughters were adopted from two rescue organizations in my city. The only way puppy mills will be stopped is if we work together as a team to stop them. This not only means shutting them down, but educating people on the horrors the mothers and fathers of those cute little puppies go through, sometimes dying never knowing what grass feels like or how to play with a toy.

Wrennie had to learn how to be a dog. She had no idea that a loud voice didn't mean she was going to get hit. Wren had no idea how to say hi to a dog or how to do a play bow. She's come so far now. Wren was lucky, she was rescued, but others were not so lucky.

Please, help us stop animal abuse and put an end to the cruelties suffered in puppy mills.

"To Be Free" Written by Sarah Clark 7/14/09

I want to be free.
I want to run and jump
like the dogs on TV.

I want to bark again
and be petted and held,
instead of the cruelty that humans have dealt.

To have a loving mom or dad
to hold me and kiss me
instead of sitting here alone, and sad.

I WANT to know what it is to dread going to the vet
instead of having litter after litter
giving birth in my own waste,
abused and wet!

Will my babies end up like me?

Every birth,
a tiny miracle,
born to suffer,
under-appreciated,
beaten,
the pain only ending in death.

My heart is clogged.
My body is dying.
I cannot breath!
A metal pipe silenced my crying.

My voice was silenced,
but yours is free to scream!!

Help us live!
Free us from this Hellish Dream!!!

Dedicated to my little girl, Wren Narissara Harmon. I WILL be your voice my little one!!

that is soooooooooo beautiful, and heart-wrenching! But oh soooo true! I just wish i had so many acres so i could adopt all the pets i could! Being their voice, is their only chance in life! It's never a dog's fault, they didn't ask to be born, it wasn't up to them! God Bless, and take care of them!

Sry guys I haven't been on in forever. The only way to make them care is to speak out and up. Love Thy Pitbull if you get as many people as you can and constantly petition the local authorities as well as local Animal groups and ASPCA/ Animal Control it will eventually work. No animal deserves what our babies and other innocent animals have gone through just for the sake of money! Continue to fight for your Sassy, Beth, as long as you don't give up she will feel loved and wanted. Thank you for rescuing your little one even though she was from a mill. A lot of people won't go near mill dogs because they consider it too much work. I have some break through and disappointing news about my girls. Wren is finally starting to bark, well kinda, I think she has twice now. She's also adjusting to her new home wonderfully. Sadly, and this isn't the disappointing news mentioned earlier, I don't think she's gunna come out of her abuse any more than she has. I'm grateful she's recovered this much! Most doctors and experts I speak too are amazed she's come this far. I do not think she will make it to the point where she can be a Therapy Dog to anyone but us, her family. She's stopped making large improvements, but she's actually full out playing now with me, hesitantly, and with another dog at the dog park. Wren was play bowing and chasing him and being chased! She was having a blast! She even let our friend, Kyle, hold her, but didn't like it when he tried to kiss her. LOL The disappointing news is that Cricket was attacked at the dog park on the same day that she finally started going up to people and letting them pet her. A man with four dogs whom we've seen at the dog park numerous times was using abusive techniques to train his huge 100 ish pound Lab Mix. He hit the dog to make it sit and was choking the heck out the dog with a metal prong collar. I've never had a problem with him or his dogs before, but he's never treated one of his dogs like this at least at the dog park before. He let his dog off the leash even though the dog was showing signs of dog aggression, especially towards little dogs. My fiance said the techniques he used were the same that a person uses to create an attack dog! Next thing I know he came up behind Cricket and sniffed her. She did everything correct, belly to the ground, body language saying "I'm no threat to you, don't attack me!" But he chomped her anyways. The only thing that saved her life was the fact the he still had his tennis ball in his mouth, yes his mouth was big enought to fit a tennis ball and my 6.5 lb chihuahau! His owner pryed his mouth open n I had to pry Cricket out of his mouth. Cricket's teeth are sharp as hell by the way!!!! She bit me eight times before she realized it was Momma and let go. She was okay, just minor cuts, but if he didn't have the tennis ball in his mouth she'd be dead because one of the cuts was located right where her lungs start! She's our little fighter, and the next day was jumping off of furniture, the silly pup! I did call Animal Control and report the guy because he bolted and ran after the attack, not even bothering to ask if she or I were okay. That was two weeks ago, Cricket's been back to the dog park and is doing great, although she's a little bit more nervous around large dogs. I'm happy I got inbetween Wren and the dog attacking Cricket because I'm pretty sure she was about to attack him to help her sister.

Thank you all for your support!

Wren and Cricket's Momma

PS. I've decided to become a certified dog trainer and I will open up my own rescue soon.

This story makes me really sad. To know that a human being would put a poor defensless animal through all of this. I wish missouri cared a little more about animal rights. How could I MAKE them care?

Just reading about Wren and Cricket had made me cry. I guess I'm soft hearted. I also have a pupy mill rescue. My Sassy is a 7 year old miniature poodle who was a breeding dog in a mill for most her life. I just got her last October and am still fighting with the weight and abuse issues with her. We have made a lot of progress with her. Its me that seems to be having the biggest issues. Forgive me but I get so angry when I think what people put these animals thru jsut for a few bucks. Thank god(or whatever higher power you believe in) that some of us have been able to save and help many of these animals.

i to have proudly joined this group to help spread the word about this heinous practice.I have gotten myself escorted out of pet stores because I tell people looking at all the cute puppies where they really come from.I was at a store in Feburary, a Dad was looking for a puppy for his son.I chatted him up ,the boy seemed to fixate on a Sheltie a 1400.00USD puppy.I kinda got into a conversation with him and told him where these dogs came from(I had on another occasion asked the owner where the pups came from)he of course answered from private local breeders.Well I went into the puppie enclosure saying I wanted to look at a Boxer and sure'nuff the place of origin.. Missouri.I live in New Jersey, not exactly close on that one.I told this father that there was a well run shelter not a 15 min drive and for 250.00 the boy could have his pick of beautiful puppies. The owner got wind that I was busting up his sale and called the police.I stood my ground and one of the officers was a dog lover (thank the universe)I was told to leave and never show my face there again, the owner could not press charges because I was telling the truth,The father left without the dog I hope that he did go and adopt.I never pass up an opportunity to educate the public and usually get my butt thrown out it is all worth it.I will not shut my mouth untill these horrid places are noyhing but a bad memory

Sarah I have just joined your group I am against puppymills overbreeding and exploitation of our fourlegged familymembers. In Denmark it has been against the law to sell dogs in petshops. However we still have issues such as people selling puppies from what is not doubt puppymills. However what we need most of all is animalcops they don´t exist here. That is one of the things I am fighting for. because we need it or rather the animals do. So way to go fighting against these socalled breeders(puppymills).

Good for you, but hey I bet you didn't know and not all our bad. Some people get from pet stores just to save the dogs because of the horrible conditions there. You're human yeah no one's perfect. if you need help finding a rescue or with anything let me know. :-) I really didn't know much about puppy mills until i rescued my Wren, then i found out quick, but knowing is half the battle right lol i know lots of cliches with me lol.
