In Honor of Wren
This page is dedicated and made in honor of my little girl, Wren, a gorgeous Straight-Breed Chihuahua who almost lost her life do to the abuse and neglect she went through in a puppy mill. For the first year and a half of her life Wren knew nothing but pain and neglect. She was nearly starved to death; bred twice, three months apart, before she was a year an a half old; and had a high positive case of heart worm the last time she gave birth. Wren went through hell before she was rescued, but she was one of the lucky ones. Most of the time puppy mill “breeders” (they do not deserve that honorable title, but I cannot think of anything else to call them) just kill dogs when it is no longer profitable to keep them. Wrennie was surrendered, and given a second chance -- the only nice thing her previous "owners" did for her.
Wren does not have a voice, the bark was beaten out of her, so I will be her voice. Please, know where your dogs are coming from! Please, for dogs like Wren and her adopted sister Cricket, please!, choose to adopt! I understand the lure of pure breeds, and do not get me wrong, I have great respect for honorable, honest breeders, who take care of and respect the dogs they love; but please, there are plenty of pure breeds in shelters and foster organizations everywhere! Wren is a pure breed, Deer-Head, Straight Breed Chihuahua. Her sister Cricket is a pure breed, Apple- Head, Modified Straight Breed Chihuahua. Both of my wonderful friends and daughters were adopted from two rescue organizations in my city. The only way puppy mills will be stopped is if we work together as a team to stop them. This not only means shutting them down, but educating people on the horrors the mothers and fathers of those cute little puppies go through, sometimes dying never knowing what grass feels like or how to play with a toy.
Wrennie had to learn how to be a dog. She had no idea that a loud voice didn't mean she was going to get hit. Wren had no idea how to say hi to a dog or how to do a play bow. She's come so far now. Wren was lucky, she was rescued, but others were not so lucky.
Please, help us stop animal abuse and put an end to the cruelties suffered in puppy mills.
"To Be Free" Written by Sarah Clark 7/14/09
I want to be free.
I want to run and jump
like the dogs on TV.
I want to bark again
and be petted and held,
instead of the cruelty that humans have dealt.
To have a loving mom or dad
to hold me and kiss me
instead of sitting here alone, and sad.
I WANT to know what it is to dread going to the vet
instead of having litter after litter
giving birth in my own waste,
abused and wet!
Will my babies end up like me?
Every birth,
a tiny miracle,
born to suffer,
under-appreciated,
beaten,
the pain only ending in death.
My heart is clogged.
My body is dying.
I cannot breath!
A metal pipe silenced my crying.
My voice was silenced,
but yours is free to scream!!
Help us live!
Free us from this Hellish Dream!!!
Dedicated to my little girl, Wren Narissara Harmon. I WILL be your voice my little one!!
