hello, well so far in MINOT,ND iv'e "rescued"three cats, two of them were kittens and my third one i still have.I found a white female during a blizzard outside in 50 degree temps last sunday!!!POOR KITTY!!!!I do beleve that SOMEONE dumped her.I really hope that whoever this "BRAVE" person is ashamed of themselves!!!!She has really bad frostbitten ears and she really needs a loving home,i feel that this poor baby was abused because she's afraid of hands, she watches my hands when i pet her,she doesn't like to be touched for long, she growls and hisses when i make sudden moves, ans yea, she's scared, but she is grateful to me because she does rub against me,she needs medical care for her ears and i'm doing the best that i can for her.lori

Edda... When I worked at our local Humane Society, there were several wonderful souls in our area that are just like you! God Bless You! We were more than happy to loan them live traps and they would bring one to three of 'their' cats to our spay/nueter clinic we held once a month at least. We were able to reduce the cost to a fee that they could more easily afford, and they were able to enjoy these needful creatures without the constant worry and expense of them by not reproducing eventually. Some would also bring litters of kittens when they could ,to be put up for adoption, which also meant these offspring of the feral colony would not be reproducing and would not be feral. They would have to somehow get the kittens to know them and get used to human contact a little. Hopefully there is a Human Society near you, not the county animal control, that may be able to help you out in your endeavour to help these cats!
Take care and all the best... Wendy : )

Thanks for the invite! I love cats, but with my informal rescuing of older dogs, I can't have one myself. Maybe someday, as I had a Calico for 18 years from kitten until she passed on to the Rainbow Bridge. I tried to bring one that my mom had, put her on the front screened in porch, but she somehow got out. Thank goodness she was already spayed, and had her shots. I still see her, but rarely, she was somewhat of a runaround when my mom had her, but she lived in a neighborhood community, so when I moved out here, she asked me to take her. I did so against my better judgement, had a feeling she wouldn't stick around as a housecat, and I was right.
I leave her food and water in the garage and replenish it when it is gone, so I know she is still coming around. Will soon get one of those beds that is like a sleeping bag since it is getting cold now (early for Florida), so she will have a warm place to sleep when she wants it.
I haven't had much of a chance to read posts here, but soon will catch up.
Thanks again, and God Bless! Wendy : )

Acually yesterday i was so scared because one of the kittens in the litter i told you about has these "coughing attacks" and i thought she had chronic Brodcitous but she had treccia- which is close but the infection is in the throat not the lungs. I thought that if she gets worse she'll have a heart attack or somethin. So anyway i took her to the vet and there goes 70 dollars! But it was worth it me and Tigerlilly had a sleepover. Your probably like what?? Well i took her from outside and put a litterbox in my room and shut the door she kept me up till 2:00 am! so hat didn't work out so well.

What this day is about October 16th is knowledge and hope.
Knowledge in the fact that only spaying/neutering will end the need for such a day...in the not so distant future.
Each of us can do our part no matter what our individual economic limits may be. Stop the cycle by spaying/neutering each feline...so many strays need homes so stop purchasing a feline or canine for that matter from a store or breeder...look to your local shelters for the the most unconditional love you will ever be lucky enough to experience in your lifetime...or in your very backyard if you are among the truly blessed of humans .
The feline that you see today..this moment...needs your help..with food..medical care..and yes...I'll say it again..spaying/neutering to end the cycle of constant breeding.
Remember a feral cat is one who has not known the kindness, warmth, shelter and most importantly the safety that each one of us can provide to just one feline at a time.
Hope...that each "true" animal lover will commit to saving just one feline life at a time... by choosing to bring one feline inside of their homes... this will change the need for such a day as National Feral Cat Day. The photo that you look at with this comment is one of potential "feral" cat.
I'm over ten years old...and I as as feline who had the potential to be a stray, feral feline lucked out and found a "human" who decided that I was worth a chance..at love, comfort and yes...all the potential joys, laughter, heartbreak and finacial strain that this lifelong commitment thankfully still brings.
End the need for such a day in the not so distant future by spaying/neutering and refusing to purchase any feline..when so many homeless felines need/demand any our attention.

Edda, see a stray cat gave birth to a litter of kittens five months ago i found an organization that will spay, vaccinate and ear tip for free!! and for a regular price that would be over $500 and the Michigan Humane society wone neccesary do it for free but chep like 20-30 dollars and microchip for $11! that really dose work!
also i know what you mean we were going to take those animals to the shelter and they were going to abort them and euthinize the mother. October 16th is national Feral Cat day i cant get into the big examples but it's a big holiday in MD just like the ASPCA is in NY i live in michigan. there are a few things each of us can do and that is what this group is all about. you can learn a lot more by going to their website which is very eazy to remember- alleycat.org
