My pig, Peppermint just died 2 days ago. I'm only 10 years old and I've had a pig, rabbit, cat, and kitten die all in 2 years. I REALLY want to be a vet but i just can't handle animals dying. I know when you euthanize animals it's better than letting them suffer but it's just so sad. I remember when i was about 7 my horse had colic and he almost got euthanized it was so bad. I had the most miserable day.

MY daughter knows of an online school where you can get training to be a vet assistant. She isn't at home right now, but I will ask her the name of it, as post it here tomorrow. I used to work in a vets office, I loved being around the animals. Yeah, when one had to be put down, I cried all the way home, because it was so sad. BUt I did get to help a ewe give birth to twin lambs. It was the most beautiful thing that happened.
There was one time I couldn't help but chuckle a bit. We had a Saint Bernard named Suzie come, she had just been hit by a car. She had a split lip and brusing on her hip. When her owners brought her in, they were upset, but the guy chuckled a bit after he told me what happened. I asked him why he was laughing, since Suzie had been hit by a car. He told me "The car that hit her is totaled" I asked him what he meant and he replied "She was hit by a VW Bug (You know....Herbie) and he said she just stood there, and the car had to be towed because when it hit her, the front end was smashed really bad. The car was is worse condition that the dog.
Animal Lover:
I'm sorry for your loss and bless you for your love of animals.
I know what you mean. I think being a vet would be a noble profession and one I would have considered persuing if it were not for seeing/euthanizing wounded or sick animals (I'm 53 and in Construction).
Your heart is in the right place and over time, I think you'll find your calling.
Thank You everyone who has commented and helped and i finally got over Peppermint but he is still in my heart i will take your advice and i still wnat to be a vet.
I am so sorry to hear about peppermint. It's hard to lose a pet, especially when you are only 10. Hang in there honey, things will get better. Don't give up on being a vet, who knows, you might just be the vet that comes up with a miracle cure for feline leukemia or hip dysplasia, if you give up on that dream you will never know.
Hi Pet lover...Its so nice that you care so much at your age and have such close bond to your pets. Sadness will pass and in fact is passing but letting yourself feel sad sometimes when you lose someone special, will make you a strong and beautiful person capable of caring for the world animals and others like no one. Youngsters like you are my heros. Lots of love and purrs from my kitties Suzie and Kali and a big big paw from my dog Cinnamon.
