Lola, Have you looked on PBOC? they always have pitbulls in your state needing immediate homes. I don't see how it would be hard for you to adopt one. :D
Sometimes in emergency placements, they won't charge you to adopt the dog, or u could foster to adopt, which means you keep it until they find a permenant home, or you decide you want the dog. I understand the deposit for the dog, it's outrageous anymore... but it's part of having one.
Pitbulls are great dogs... I have one that lives with me here and one next door as I share property, and other than a little tiff here and there over territory, they get along fine. They are both sweethearts.
