A BILL TO AMEND THE ANIMAL WELFARE ACT TO PROHIBIT DOG FIGHTING VENTURES:

Support S. 1880, H. R. 3219 and H. R. 3327 --Legislation to Stop Dog Fighting!

This is TOUGHER anti-dog fighting legislation on the floor of the U. S. Congress right NOW that addresses the sadistic act of dog fighting at its root cause--the DOG FIGHTER. If YOU knowingly buy, sell, train, transport, or possess a dog with the intent to fight him, or if YOU knowingly participate as a spectator at a dog-fight, YOU will be removed from society, not the Pit Bull Dog! That simple!

The Animal Welfare Act and BSL do NOT serve as a deterrent to the 40,000 dog-fighting criminals in the U.S. today. 6 long years, and still, the pit bull dog is languishing on tethered chains living a miserable existence being made to fight for the entertainment of diseased minds. There is absolutely NO language at all in this bill calling for the ban of the Pit Bull Dog! The Federal Dog Protection Act is designed to protect the Pit Bull dog! The complete text of this bill can be found at Washingtonwatch.com.

S.1880 (The Dog Fighting Prohibition Act) AMENDS the Animal Welfare Act to make it unlawful to: (1) knowingly sponsor or exhibit an animal in, or knowingly attend, a dog fighting venture; and (2) knowingly sell, buy, possess, train, transport, deliver, or receive for purposes of transportation any dog or other animal for the purposes of having the dog, animal, or offspring of the dog or other animal participate in a dog fighting venture; and (3) provides for imprisonment for up to five years for violations; and (4) watching a dog fight a federal offense and increase the penalty for dog fighting from three years in prison to five.

H.R. 3219 (The Dog Fighting Prohibition Act) AMENDS the Animal Welfare Act to make it unlawful to: (1) knowingly sponsor or exhibit an animal in, or knowingly attend, a dog fighting venture; and (2) knowingly sell, buy, possess, train, transport, deliver, or receive for purposes of transportation any dog or other animal for the purposes of having the dog, animal, or offspring of the dog or other animal participate in a dog fighting venture; and (3) provides for imprisonment for up to five years for violations.of H.R. 3327; and (4) authorizes enforcement by animal control agencies and local humane societies and societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCAs), with notice to the USDA so that the agency may intervene.

H.R.3327 (The Federal Dog Protection Act) AMENDS the Animal Welfare Act to make it unlawful to knowingly: (1) use the U.S. mail service or any instrumentality of interstate commerce for commercial speech that promotes or furthers such prohibited actions; and (2) costs incurred for the care of animals seized and forfeited recoverable from the owner; and (3) allows animal control agencies, humane societies, or societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals to commence a civil suit to enjoin any private party who is alleged to be in violation of provisions concerning animal fighting.

UPDATE TO NEW LEGISLATION: 5 more U.S. House Representative Members have co-sponsored the DOG FIGHTING PROHIBITION ACT since 1/15/08 (that's 199 of 435!).

This bill speaks directly to the dog-fighter! If YOU buy, sell, transport, train or possess fighting dogs, or if YOU participate as a spectator at a dog fight, YOU will be removed from society, not the pit bull dog!

I to believe the sentencing should be much longer, because hello! these are living beings they are hurting! But I'll take the best I can get, and hopefully soon, laws will be even more stronger,

I still don't see anything in this that would allow prosecution for having dog-fighting equipment. Such as, the enhancement drugs, treadmills, chains, fighting ring, blood evidence, etc. that cruelty officers find continually but can't do anything about because these people haven't been caught in the act of actually fighting dogs. Shouldn't there be some kind of wording to this law that can make it a little easier to prosecute these people?

Tougher penalties for these atrocities are needed if we are ever to deter these sadistic crimes. But on another note if all we focus on is pit bull fighting, we are as one sided as the media. We also need laws to protect another noble breed of dog. The Greyhound is one breed that has it just as rough as the pit bull. Most greyhounds are not available to the general public as they are mostly owned by the race tracks and rich bitches that run them. As puppies if they prove not to be as fast as other dogs or have any kind of deformity in them it is a death sentence for them long before they have a chance to prove themselves a worthy companion. Here is a link to this overlooked group as well to show you what I am talking about. Just for the record I love greyhounds as much as I do pits, I have a pit bull/greyhound mix so I have a wonderful family member that is part 2 noble misunderstood breeds.

Megan, the problem (and sorry, I know this is an old post!!) is that there is an over-population of horses because of breeding. Also, there are horses bred for various reasons and they don't have a chance.. think of all the thoroughbreds born that n…
