knowing the right person to purchase one from

Hello,
I am new to this pittbull breed. I am wanting to find and purchase a blue pit and I am trying to understand the words gator or red nose and other lingo they use with this breed. I love this breed and have been around some wonderful pitts. so can anyone help me out here. thanks

The best thing to do is adopt; so many pitbulls are being uthanized becaue people dont want to adopt them from shelters. shelters do have red nose and blue nosed pitbulls. and some are as young as a few weeks old. Blue nose pitts are the grey one with a grey or back nose. A red nose pitt is one with a very red nose or even black also. but my opinion; red, nose, blue nose, black orange or green, all pitbulls are lovely animals and no matter the type; deserve a loving home.

please try a shelter before spending lots of money out there on a pitbull who could be sick or whatever. but if you do decide to purchse one; please find people who have legal documents stating that there pitbulls are vaccinated and healthy. make sure they are 8 weeks of age and are not being abused.

Thank you both for your response. I have no problm with adoption of a pittbull. The main thing is I live in a very small town and and it is not like we have rescue centers in our area. I would not even know how to begin to locate one. We dont even have an animal shelter in our town. My next worry is when and if I find one and its not a puppy how will my rotty and the new one play together. And before anyone thinks this no she is not a mean dog... more like a huge ham..lol. Any information to rescue centers close to or better yet in Ms. would be thankful.

Please don't purchase a dog. There are so many pit bulls in shelters and rescues that need a good home.

here is an interesting link to take a look at before you get a pit bull.. they have links to pit bull rescues in Mississippi as well. I would recommend a rescue where a dog has been in foster since the foster is probably familiar with the breed and can tell you if the dog would be a good fit for you.

Dogs (of any breed) in shelters may only have temperment testing to check for aggression. Many times these so-called "temperment testers" don't have a clue as to what they are doing. In my opinion, you're better off rescuing one from a foster environment.. you're miles ahead in knowing what you're getting.

First, I strong suggest that you read everything there is to know about Pit Bulls. While these dogs are wonderful they are full of energy. Do you have the time for a dog with lots of energy? Do you have a house or an apartment. If you have a house is it fenced in? If you live in an apartment will the landlord okay to a Pit Bull. Do not adopt if your landlord says no. Not fair to adopt only to return him/her back into the shelter. Do expect a home check to see if you are qualified to have a pit bull.

If you do not properly socialize, train, and care for this dog in the right way and if he gets loose and hurts someone then you are responsible for his actions.

While your town is small you can get a pit bull anywhere and have it transported to you providing you help with the transport. I can help with finding any dog but you need to learn about this dog since you are new APBT.

A blue nose, red nose is just a color and doesn't mean anything other than its color. While a blue color pit is pretty it can develop skin problems if not cared for properly. Please read everything and then decided if you want to adopt.

Thank you once again to all this wonderful help. I hav one thats already full of energy! So, 2 to me would me more the better. I own my own home and ai it fenced in. And both dogs at the house are social animals and well trained. Thats one thing I hate the most is somone not training there animals and claming them for not knowing any better. If you dont have the time to train then dont adopt or breed or buy a pet. Its not fair to the animal or people in the public or your home. And yes I will make a point to do alot on this breed as far as research goes. Thank you to everyone for so much advise and help.
