I am actually writing an argumentative research paper about puppy mills for my English class. This question may have already been asked, but I was wondering what kind of laws are out there, and are there any bills waiting to be passed. I am still trying to figure out what my argument is going to be, and I just wanted to know what kind of l things are being done o help stop or decrease this epidemic happening.

There is a federal law, the Animal Welfare Act, which requires wholesale commercial breeders to be licensed, regulated, and inspected by the US Department of Agriculture. Several states also have state laws regulating large commercial breeders. Unfortunately, these laws are not effectively enforced and many of the regulations promulgated from these laws are minimum at best. They usually just ensure survival of the dogs but certainly not what could be considered humane standards.

Public Education!!! Most puppy buyers don't think anything of going to a Pet store. Most of the public, I like to think, has genuine concern for well being of animals. Most are horrified when they find out their "baby" has come from a puppy mill. I had to do "Effective Presentations" training for work, my informative presentation was on Chained Dogs, and persuasive presentation was on Puppy Mills. I did ok in the training, but more importantly I educated some people who had NO IDEA! They will in turn, tell others. Education will end the cruelty.

100% I agree, it is in educating people, that will help to end mistreatment,
overpopulation and homelessness for animals. Working together advocating for innocent animals and for tougher laws/enforcement of these laws. Volunteering at area shelters, fund raising, rescuing and supporting bills and more, I have gained much insight into problems that face innocent animals every minute of everyday. All of us can contribute to the cause: ANIMAL RIGHTS!! Start educating someone today. I can't stop educating and encouraging others until innocent animals are consistently defended, treated as living beings with rights and protected from heinous crimes that they are subjected to every minute of everyday.
Come Along...

i totally agree that all dogs, whatever the breed, should be on a leash. i had a german shepard for 13 years and he was a gentle giant and very well trained. i had a pure pitbull for 10 years and she also was a gentle, sweet dog. i now have a pitbul…
