The reason so many puppy mills keep thriving and not closed down, because there are not enough laws or enforcement of the current laws and little importance, for that matter, is placed on animals in our society.
An Animal Rights Revolution is long over due!!. We need to enforce old laws and amend new laws with severe punishment for perpetrators of heinous crimes, to innocent animals, don't you agree? Also, what about exposing them on T.V. and billboards all over our country? Who's up for this?
And YES, I am very serious about living in a puppy mill cage, to generate $$ and more expose about puppy mills and stop them. (see comment I made on puppy mills.)

I agree with all you said. Need better laws and need existing laws better enforced. But the most important thing is public awareness. When consumers learn the source of pet store puppies they will stop buying these puppies and this will dry up demand and place many puppy mills out of business. We are attempting to garner as much publicity on this issue as possible. And I like the idea of billboards. Several groups have already started this campaign. In fact it was a billboard that caught Oprah Winfrey's attention and led her to doing a show on puppy mills.

Bob,

I agree educating the public is key. A few ways I am spreading the word; on my rear car window a sigh reads, Adopt from a shelter, underneath, stop puppy mills, with a picture of some puppy mill babies, and a rescue pets magnetic ribbon. I have also posted information at our mail box. I own a townhouse, there are 2 community message boards, I put up an ASPCA notice to take the pledge to stop puppy mills, adopt from shelters and other info on how to help innocent animals. It has been removed twice, not by the board but, rather someone who evidently does not think animals deserve... so far has not been removed.
I am writing an inspirational book encouraging others to be part of the solution to end animal homelessness, overpopulation and cruelty. Book profits to go to area shelters, rescue organizations, just enough for me, to continue my commitment to animals. I am looking into non profit grants etc. to keep going. I resigned from 19 years of teaching, to continue my commitment to animals.
I would very much like to keep in touch with you. Please let me know what else I can do. I check your site and ASPCA daily to support legislation, and email as many as I can to fight for Animal Rights.
I watched Oprah's show. Your billboard was an excellent idea, exposing puppy mills and impacting so many. What is going up on bill boards now?

Gratefully Yours,
S Creacy

There have been a variety of messages on billboards. In Minnesota there was one that said, Welcome to Minnesota, Home to 10,000 Puppy Mills. This was a play on their state motto home to 10,000 lakes. Others are just advising consumers not to buy dogs in pet stores.
