gus boy sadly passed on but he was the best little guy you can ask for..i never thought that i would have a pet rat but when i saw him i knew i had to have him,,whenever he heard me he would run to the door of his cage and wait till i opened it for him so he could run around.i will never forget him.

Thanks Stephanie. It can be hard to be alergic to a number of things but you learn to live it. I have since late chilhood early youth so it is an old story however perhaps it means that I have an understanding of what others are going through when they become alergic to something. So in a sense it is a wealth of knowledge that is hard but it teaches you compassion for other who suffer from the same infliction. However I like seeing rabbits at a distance the same with other rodents. Having sighthounds gives you yet another perspective as well. So I will enjoy the stories and wealth of knowledge being with someone who shows these endearing little creatures so much love are worth knowing. Lisbeth and the lads.

I read in the news today that Texas A&M is conducting research on rats that would get them addicted to cocaine. It just doesn't seem right to be. People choose to take drugs and know they will most likely become addicted. Animals shouldn't have to suffer from the poor choices of human beings.

Please re-post to other rescue lists!

Dear Animal Advocates,
The good folks at the Humane League down in Philadelphia have had the blessing/ burden of convincing a nearby University to allow the release/rescue of the rats used in repetitive, pointless classroom psychology experiments. These rats would be gassed to death at the end of each school year if homes are not found. This year there are 31 rats. About half will be transported this week to a foster home in Syracuse, NY. The rest will remain in foster care in Philadelphia, PA.

These rats are approximately 10 month old white males. They have a clean bill of health and are used to human contact. There is a $3 adoption fee per rat to help cover transportation costs and supplies used for the rescue of these rats. A phone interview is required. It is preferred to adopt rats in pairs(unless you already have another rat) so they will have the company of their own species, especially when you are away at work etc.

**if you live in the upstate NY area and can adopt or foster a rat, Please email Amber ASAP at info@..syracuseanimalr..ights.com
**if you do not live in the upstate NY area but are still interested in helping in this situation, please email info@..thehumaneleague...com

I am alergic to them but find them sweet and amusing besides some of them live for a long time I had a genueapig as a child he was eleven years old when he was put to sleep he had cancer in the intestines so advanced that nothing could be done execpt alieviate his pains permanently. It was a sad loss I loved him as i have all the small furries I have had until my alergies kicked in now I have sighthounds four of them and they hunt small furries on sight former racing greyhounds and one whippet.
